Petteway v. Galveston Oral Argument in Galveston, TX
On Tuesday, the UCLA VRP, Campaign Legal Center, and the Law Office of Neil G. Baron argued in front of Judge Jeffrey V. Brown that Galveston County intentionally discriminated against Black and Latino residents when enacting their prior redistricting plan. Plaintiffs argued that neither Callais, nor the enactment of a new map by the commission, prevents the court from making a finding in favor of the plaintiffs.

VRP Director, Matt Barreto, tells NPR Morning Edition that Election Wagering Markets are Bad for Democracy
Kalshi, the prediction market platform, is suing Wisconsin to allow wagering on elections. UCLA VRP Faculty Director, Matt Barreto, spoke with NPR, stating that election betting poses a serious threat to election integrity. "There should be absolutely no money involved in the outcome of our democracy. We should be voting on candidates for their positions and policies to represent us, not because we can make a buck."
