Hello 2021

Happy New Year and soon to be the movement into the second half of the school year. We spent the holidays talking to professionals in the healthcare field as that is the next industry we will highlight.
Healthcare Month
In a partnership with HealthForce Minnesota, students have the unique opportunity to explore careers in health care that include Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), Registered Nurse, Anesthesiologist, Chiropractor, Dentist, Physical Therapist, Counselor, and Athletic Trainer, among others. As students explore these careers, they will also research local companies to learn more about this fast growing industry.

Outstanding Educator - Kasson-Mantorville

Jessica Marquardt, Elementary Educator from Kasson Mantorville Public Schools, has won the STEM Forward Outstanding Educator Award that celebrates educators from southeast Minnesota that foster high K-12 student achievement, exhibit leadership and support for continuous improvement, promote science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers, and demonstrate collaboration among K-12 schools, businesses and higher education.

The presentation will be awarded at the STEM Forward Outstanding Educator Awards, occurring virtually, on Wednesday, January 20th from 7:00 to 8:00 PM. This year’s theme is “Persevering Through Resilience”. All SSC members and the public are welcome to attend.

Stewartville on DonorsChoose

There is currently a project on DonorsChoose to help the Industrial Technology department get some needed tools (torque wrench and a full wrench set) for the engine course. These tools will allow the students to really know the tools and equipment needed to repair and fix small engines. Donate today!

Additionally, for the whole month of January 2021, teachers who have never had a project on DonorsChoose are eligible for a $50 welcome donation when they submit their first project. Teachers who refer new teachers can receive a $25 gift code.

There are two art teachers in the process collecting artifacts for their Minnesota Professional Educators Licensing and Standards Board portfolio. They are documenting what they are teaching and how it is relevant to the standards required by PELSB. They are being innovative and creative in their collection and I will continue to support them as they transition to get their license.

A referral has been made for the Industrial Technology teacher to connect with ATS-Lab Midwest to assist with some curriculum and training opportunities for the students.
"Welding Skills remain in very high demand and provide fantastic pathways to entry level and advanced manufacturing jobs. With the right curriculum, virtual reality systems and training equipment the investment of time required to train a learner on necessary skills can be reduced by half" from the Welding Curriculum on Lab Midwest.
