The U.S. Air Force Academy Association & Foundation has recently learned of the death of Mr. Derick W. Lopez, CS-16, Class of 1978. Mr. Lopez passed away on July 5, 2026, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. on July 27, 2026, at the USAFA Cemetery, 3024 Parade Loop, USAF Academy, Colorado.
His family has suggested memorial donations be made in lieu of flowers to San Luis Valley Animal Welfare Society (SLVAWS).
Condolences may be left online with his obituary.
