Have you ever been forgotten? On one occasion or another, we have left our kids behind some place. In our own defense, Jesus’ earthly parents made a similar mistake, leaving him in Jerusalem. Do you ever run into somebody that you remember who does not remember you? I was reminded recently that Julianne Moore the Oscar-winning actress and I went to school together at Frankfurt American High School. I remember her from Geometry class (I think) and school plays (she was a really good actress). I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure she does not remember me.
In our worst moments of loneliness we may feel that God has forgotten us. Israel felt that way in exile. The prophet Isaiah hears their complaints, “My way is hidden from the Lord; my cause is disregarded by my God.” Isaiah begs to differ. God knows. Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.
God possesses equally power and knowledge. God not only knows us but he willingly gives us strength when we are weary and weak. We may forget God. But he will never forget us. We are engraved on the palms of his hands . . . with imprints made by nails. He will not forget us. Will we forget him? Not today!
