1 Samuel 3:19-21
The Lord was with Samuel as he grew up, and he let none of Samuel’s words fall to the ground.  And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba recognized that Samuel was attested as a prophet of the Lord.  The Lord continued to appear at Shiloh, and there he revealed himself to Samuel through his word.
New International Version (NIV)
“When Mama prayed, heaven paid attention!”  My friend Sam Perry sang these words for us in worship on a Mother’s Day many years ago.  We believed him when he sang because we knew his mom, Pat.

Samuel’s mom prayed for him and God gave her the desire of her heart.  Then she gave the desire of her heart, her son Samuel back to the Lord.  Samuel fulfilled his mother’s prayer by giving himself completely to the Lord.

Sometimes God raises up the best people in the worst of times.  When Israel’s High Priest and family had become corrupt, God brought the boy Samuel into the world in answer to a mother’s prayer.  All of history changed because one person prayed.

If you find yourself in an impossible situation, pray today to the God of possibilities.  Alfred Lord Tennyson wrote, “More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of.”
Pray with me:
Father, we thank you for responding to the prayers of your people.  We are tempted to lose hope in view of the brokenness in our world.  Grant us wisdom.  Grant us courage for the living of these days.  Answer the prayers of the mothers to be who seek the gift of children today, we pray.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year our Every Day with Jesus readings will follow The Bible Project Read Scripture Plan.  Copies of this reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download
the app at readscripture.org.  Read through the Bible with us in 2019!
Joyfully,
