Katrina 10, keynote speaker for LAPCS conference, AFR training, and more
August 2015
Dear Charter School Supporter,
As the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina approaches, the greater New Orleans area is experiencing renewed attention from both local and national media, especially as it relates to education reform and the growth of charter schools in the city. It's estimated that New Orleans will welcome thousands of journalists to the area over the next few weeks that's a lot of coverage!
In the midst of all this attention, I want to make sure that we at LAPCS take a moment to recognize the work done by the educators, parents, community leaders, and the non-profit/business leaders in New Orleans as they rebuilt the schools after Katrina. Make no mistake it's been a tough, and at times, difficult journey. But it's one that should be celebrated for its results: improved academic outcomes for the students of New Orleans.
Yes, there's still much to do in improving education, in New Orleans and across Louisiana. But I hope you'll join me in stepping back, taking a breath, and sincerely applauding your charter school colleagues in New Orleans for all that they have done on behalf of students and families. I'm proud to be a part of the charter community here in Louisiana, and I'm proud to work alongside all of you.
