Rev. Christina’s Adoption Update (Again!)
We are pleased to share the news that Rev. Christina, her husband Brian, and their son Nevan have expanded their family. They adopted four-month-old Ellis Matthew in Florida on June 27, and brought him home on July 4. This all happened very quickly after they chose to move forward with a different adoption agency after their sad loss a little over a month ago. We rejoice with the Leone-Tracy family and welcome baby Ellis to our community! Rev. Christina will be on a modified parental leave through the remainder of the summer, working occasionally from home, but not participating in much community life until the fall. She appreciates your thoughts, love, and patience as her family re-settles with the new addition.

Beauty and My Ill-fated Kayaking Trip by Rev. Jim Coakley
Sometimes the universe gives you one of those perfectly beautiful days in which a sense of the sacred surrounds you everywhere. Unfortunately, at those very same moments our self-absorption and ego often won't let us appreciate it. Come let me tell you about one such day while kayaking a few summers ago.

Signs of Spiritual Maturity Part 2
by Rev. Christina Leone-Tracy
The Rev. Dr. Kendyl Gibbons, a UU Humanist minister of over 35 years, proposes that the task of religious community (of any type) is to help us “grow up as spiritual people, where we learn to reach out toward a larger perspective and a new understanding.” She says spiritual maturity helps us develop a reflective ability to deal with the accidents and incidents of life. What are some of her 12 signs of spiritual maturity, drawn from spiritual   traditions around the world? We heard Part 1 of this sermon on March 10! Join us this week for Part 2.

In Memoriam
A service to memorialize and celebrate Marge Keopke will be held here at the Fellowship, on July 20th. The visitation will start at 1 pm, and the service will be at 2:30 pm. Click HERE for a link to her obituary.
Contact Cyndi at cyndi@fvuuf.org if you would like to sign up for a weekly email of the Joys and Concerns shared at services on Sunday.
Religious Education
Join us after the service this Sunday, July 14 for some cool water games!
This week’s children’s lesson comes from a Navajo story about Snail Girl, who brings water to her people. It focuses on the importance of water as a resource and will culminate with our young people playing outdoor water games. Bring an extra shirt and a towel to sit on for the way home; all are welcome to play group games until 11:45.

Appleton Children’s Parade
Wednesday, July 24th lineup starts at 5:15 pm; parade starts at 6:00 pm
Tye Dye Party on Sunday, July 21st after the service
The children's parade is a fun way of involving families and children to have a parade to themselves! While it is focused on children, we invite anyone of any age to join us in the parade to represent UU while giving company to the children. We are going to be making tye-dye shirts so we have a theme and we will be making signs of our seven principles. The parade will go to City Park, with small activities at the end. You are all invited to design your bikes or scooters anyway you would like. Sign up at the Sign Up Spot if you are interested in attending either days. Contact Nick Schiller at nickgschiller@gmail.com with questions or click HERE for more information. This event is being organized by the Fellowship Multigenerational Committee.
Upcoming Programs
Pollinate (BIPoC) small group
We recognize that as a majority-white congregation, it can often feel isolating for People of Color/Brown & Black folx who love our theology but might not identify with some other aspects of the community. Join the Pollinate (BIPoC) small group once a month or more as we gather to have fun and discuss topics that we can identify with. This is a great way to meet and connect with people and avoid isolation.
We usually meet every second Sunday of the month. PoC/Brown & Black folx of all ages are more than welcome to join us! We also encourage young people to get involved. Email pollinate.BIPoC@hotmail.com for more details and for meeting time and location. Follow us on social media: Instagram.com/Pollinate.BIPoC and Facebook.com/Pollinate.BIPoC
Playground Meeting - July 28, 11:00 am
The Religious Education Committee is soliciting ideas for how we could renovate the Fellowship playground. Please join us on July 28 after the service to share your ideas. If you have experience with construction, carpentry, playground design, or fundraising, we would deeply appreciate your input! If you have ideas or are willing to volunteer or donate but cannot make the meeting, please e-mail Anne Sieck at anne.sieck@oshkosh.k12.wi.us.
Leadership Development Class Participant Openings!
The Leadership Development Committee invites you to consider applying to take their class this fall.
The purpose of this class is to provide emerging leaders with an opportunity to explore the theory and practice of what it means to be a spiritual leader; and get a more systemic overview of the Fellowship as an institution; and form deep relationships with fellow participants. The dates for the class will be September 13th from 6:00-9:00 pm, September 14 from 9:00 am-4:00 pm, September 19, 26, October 3, 10 from 6:00-8:00 pm and October 20th from 12:00-5:00 pm.
Past participants have found this class helps them connect more deeply to others in the Fellowship, the Fellowship as a whole and their Unitarian Universalist identity.

Book Discussion: The Age of Overwhelm: Strategies for the Long Haul by Laura van Dernoot Lipsky
6:00 pm on September 3rd or 12 noon on September 5th (Bring your lunch if you’d like!
Our annual worship theme for 2019-2020 is healing. As we prepare to kick off the new program year, you’re invited to start broadly with a deep dive! Burnout and grief can be overwhelming in our society, and leave us wounded. It’s not always clear how to keep showing up and practicing good self-care. Sometimes doing less is more! Thankfully, there are tools that can help us do this. Rev. Leah is going to read this engaging and upbeat book for her September 22nd sermon and would welcome your thoughts, suggestions, stories, experiences, and challenges with the subject.
Copies of The Age of Overwhelm: Strategies for the Long Haul by Laura van Dernoot Lipsky will be available at our Fellowship bookstore and other places books are sold.
Come to one (or both) of these community conversations. No RSVP needed.

Many Unitarian Universalists know the story of Reverend James Reeb, the UU minister who was murdered in 1965 in Selma, Alabama after answering Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s nationwide call for religious leaders to come south to march in support of voting rights. The Unitarian Universalist Community of Casper Wyoming, in partnership with the family of Rev. James Reeb, invite all Unitarian Universalists to participate in a Faithify crowdfunding campaign. The funds UU Casper has committed to raise will to help pay for the creation of a James Reeb Memorial Mural located in his hometown of Casper, Wyoming.
To learn more and donate to the Rev. James Reeb Memorial Mural by July 27th, click HERE.
Road Construction Alert!
Outagamie County and the City of Appleton are planning a project to repair the concrete pavement on County KK / Calumet Street between Telulah Avenue and Kensington Drive, and on John Street between Matthias Street and Calumet Street.  The project will also include construction of a longer eastbound right turn lane to the WIS 441 southbound on-ramp.
During the project, traffic on Calumet Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction, with limited left turn movements. John Street will be closed to through traffic. The project will be completed by August 16.
Be aware that this may impact your drive to the Fellowship, please plan for additional travel time, and watch for changes in the traffic patterns or limits to left turns. Additional information will be published in the scroll as it is available. Detailed information can also be found on the Outagamie county website, HERE.
