My thanks goes to all who have remained attentive to our COVID prevention plan over the past seven days. Your efforts to get tested, wear masks, and stay away from unmasked gatherings are paying off. At this time, we do not need to implement the contingency measures mentioned last week.
However, now is not the time to let our guard down. We must all stay vigilant and continue to make responsible choices, wear masks everywhere indoors and avoid places and parties where people gather unmasked.
Required weekly testing will continue both for students who are partially vaccinated or have an approved exemption, as well as the random samples of those who are fully vaccinated.
In addition, the contingency plans mentioned last week remain as options for us to implement if necessary. It is your sustained commitment to keeping our community safe and healthy that will allow us keep full campus operations ongoing.
As of this morning, there are 32 active cases among our student body. Many students who were included in the positive case count last week have since completed their isolation period and, even with the increase in testing a portion of vaccinated students, we have seen a steady decline in the number of positive cases. This number of active cases is different than the number at the top of the SUNY COVID Tracker because that section of the dashboard reports cases over a 14-day rolling period, not active cases. You can see the total number of students in isolation (active cases) on the SUNY COVID Tracker by selecting “Oneonta” and scrolling down to the “Quarantine & Isolation: Current Status” section.
I appreciate your diligence to protecting ourselves and our community. We must continue to work together. If we keep following the health and safety guidelines, we will stay on track for a successful semester full of enriching in-person academic and social experiences.
Sincerely,
Alberto J.F. Cardelle
President
