Logbook entry from Josh's first Rhinebeck Fair.

In the early 1970s, Josh kept a handwritten logbook of all his expenses and income. One recurring expense, "grapes for display," showed up whenever he was at a craft fair. On June 26, 1974, a day that brought in over $3,000 in wholesale orders, he spent $9.67 on himself. That's our Josh!

Back then, he had only just begun to figure out his now iconic New Mexico Glass. And he didn't make bowls because, he explains, they took up too much space in the annealing oven (that's our Josh!).

But, just because it's June and we're thinking about those grapes that he repeatedly displayed on his craft show tables, today we spotlight a new collection of New Mexico bowls: perfect for your summer fruit!

You can bid on this beautiful, solid glass 4.5" Corona Megaplanet, donated by Josh Simpson. Proceeds support the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum.

This month's Infinity Project participant is Aika M. He will hide a Planet at Honolulu's National Military Cemetary of the Pacific, the burial site of one of his closest friends. A World War II Marine veteran, this wise and kind friend was the last known survivor of the Battle of Guadalcanal. Aika feels an Infinity Planet belongs here in his memory, because the Infinity Project represents the idea that small objects can carry deep meaning through time.

We just shut off the furnaces for the summer. Think Josh and the crew are happy about it? True! And while Josh went to Corning to give his talk about lunar glass at the 2026 GAS conference, Zak Grace and Tucker Litchfield moved furnaces out of the hotshop, put away all the tools, vacuumed countless invisible bits of glass off the floor, and created a super nice meeting spot for us!

Don't worry! Even though nothing new will be made for a while, the beautiful glass made over the past several weeks will get cold-worked and be ready soon.
