Dear Playhouse Friends and Family,
It’s finally summer and we’re looking forward to seeing you at the theatre as we present Lerner and Loewe’s classic, romantic favorite Camelot, the hysterical Boeing, Boeing, and the premiere of the touching and epic The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I can promise you some seriously great theatre this summer as we wind up our 101st season and can’t wait to hear what you think.
I’m also very excited about our newest venture, Offstage at Lola’s presented by the Erie Playhouse. We’re taking over Lola’s Rat Pack Lounge at the Avalon for three nights this summer: June 18, July 30, and August 27. The concerts will feature our musical director extraordinaire, Andrew Rainbow, with some of your favorite Playhouse performers singing music you won’t hear on our stage. In June, Kate and Patrick Thiem, Leah Johnson, Casey Conrad Medvis, Luke Weyand, and Allyn Jones will be singing pop and rock songs that tell stories... you can expect to hear some Joni Mitchell, Simon & Garfunkel, Johnny Cash, Meatloaf, Green Day and more! In addition, the bar and the kitchen will be open at Lola’s, so you can come early and enjoy a cocktail and tapas before and during the concert. Get your tickets quickly, as there’s limited space!
Finally, it’s not too late to register a dramatic kid in your life for Youtheatre camp! Our Youtheatre program provides kids such fantastic opportunities to find themselves onstage, develop self-confidence, build empathy, learn compromise, and build a community of friendships that can last a lifetime. I hope you consider getting a kid involved in what could be a life-changing experience for them!
All my best,
Kate

CAMELOT!The Erie Playhouse is excited to present Lerner and Loewe’s timeless musical, Camelot, June 8-24, 2018. Winner of 4 Tony Awards, and with 2 revivals and a U.S. tour, Camelot is captivating, filled with adventure, drama, romance, revenge, forgiveness, a rich and wondrous score, and even a little bit of magic.
Based on the King Arthur legend as adapted from the T. H. White novel The Once and Future King, Camelot follows the story of legendary King Arthur (Brendan Daughtery), as he marries his passionate yet conflicted queen, Guenevere (Hannah Ridgewell). Together they build the kingdom of Camelot and form the Knights of the Round Table, including powerful and arrogant Sir Lancelot (Mathew E. Anderson), devoted Sir Dinadan (Matthew Incorvati), lighthearted Sir Sagramore (Paul Bills), and loyal Sir Lionel (Colin Rhodes). However Camelot is not to be the happily-ever-after of Arthur’s dreams, as Lancelot and Guenevere betray their king, and the vengeful and malicious Mordred (Mitchel McVeigh) threatens the balance of power in the kingdom. Other notable characters include Merlyn, Arthur’s magical mentor (Richard Davis), sorceress Morgan le Fay (Teni Hodge-Siano), and young Tom of Warwick (Colden Lamb) who dreams of becoming a Knight of the Round Table.
The extraordinary score features truly beautiful songs “I Loved You Once in Silence” and “If Ever I Would Leave You,” the delightful “Lusty Month of May” and “What Do The Simple Folk Do?,” title song “Camelot,” and more.
The talented ensemble is under the direction and choreography of Susan Lechner. Additional production credits go to Patrick Rose for music direction, Christine Daugherty and Julie Lokahi for set design, Andrew Boucher for lighting design, and Ryan Ingram for wardrobe and costume design.

The Talent
Thrilled to be back on the Erie Playhouse stage, Mathew Anderson will be playing Lancelot in Camelot throughout the month of June. Still relatively new to the Playhouse family, previous productions include Kiss Me, Kate (Bill Calhoun), Sister Act (Joey), A Chorus Line (Alan DeLuca), as well as multiple launch parties and the 100 Year Gala celebration. Mat has also performed extensively with the Mercyhurst Theatre Program, D’Angelo Opera Theatre, as well as numerous theatre companies across the region.
When not on stage, Mathew is often either at the Erie Philharmonic, where he is celebrating three years as Patron Services Manager for the organization, or at Community United Church, where he serves as President of Council, sings, and often leads Wednesday evening music services. In any free time he has left, Mat enjoys yoga and graphic design.

PLAYtime!
PLAYtime has been everywhere this month! Last seen with the cast of Junie B. Jones, families were treated to storytelling fun with the cast through the “Reading Buddies” event. The month of May also brought PLAYtime’s school visits to a close for the year. 19 classrooms, 72 stories, 912 storytimes, hundreds of smiling faces were proof it was a successful year of literacy with the Erie Playhouse. A special thanks to Karen Nasca for her dedication to the program! Alone, Karen reads to over 130 children twice a week. She is making a difference!

To finish off our school year with a bang, PLAYtime hosted a tent at Edison’s Carnival. Hundreds of children and parents attended as students listened to stories, played throwback games and even "walked the plank" as seen here! PLAYtime will also make an appearance at Pre-K graduation, leading the students in song! But the fun does not stop there! PLAYtime still offers programming throughout the summer for preschool programs in session.
