Mobility and Parking
Services (MAPS)

Dear Students,

Fall 2025 parking permits will be available for registration/purchase online beginning Tuesday, July 15th at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time for all students, and will be valid from August 18, 2025 through December 31, 2025.

How to Register for Fall Parking Permits
Use your NetID to access the parking portal in order to purchase or register for a parking permit (you will only see the permits available to you once you are in the system). Please have your vehicle's make, model, color and license plate number on hand when registering. As a reminder, permits are now virtual and linked to your license plate number. Hang tags are no longer in use.

Payment Options
You may purchase a permit through your student account or by credit card.
  • Student account: The permit charge will appear on your student bill as “Surface Pay Lot Fee”. The charge should appear within 2-3 business days of your registration. You can access your student bill to make a payment by logging into SOLAR. Please note that financial aid does not cover parking fees.
  • Credit card: All credit card numbers are confidential and credit card information is not stored in the system.
Discounted Permits
  • Eligibility: Only undergraduate students who are PELL grant or TAP eligible may apply for this permit waitlist. By selecting this as an option, the student gives permission for the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships to share their financial need eligibility with MAPS. Permits will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, and there are no guarantees that by adding your name to the waitlist you will receive the permit. Graduate students are not PELL grant or TAP eligible.
  • How to Apply: Undergraduate students interested in a discounted permit will need to add your name to the waitlist through the parking portal. Students will be able to purchase another type of permit to guarantee they receive the parking option they want while on the waitlist for the discounted permit. Applicants will receive an update on their eligibility status via email no earlier than five business days.
Commuter Students
  • Commuter Core and Commuter Perimeter Parking Permits: Paid parking options are sold on a semester-by-semester basis, and give permit holders access to several designated lots on the north side of campus. Permits will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Commuter Core permits are available for $135/semester (fall) and Commuter Perimeter permits are available for $90/semester (fall).
  • Commuter Satellite Parking Permit: This free parking option will allow Commuter Students to park in Lot 40 on campus.
Residential Students
Resident Parking Permits are available to Junior and Senior Undergraduate Students and all Graduate Students (defined by the University as earning 57 credits before the beginning of the semester). There are two Residential Student permit options:
  • Residential Perimeter: Permits are available for $90/semester (fall), and permit owners will be given access to their assigned residential zone. This permit does NOT allow you to park in other residential zones
  • Residential Satellite: Permits are available at no cost on a first-come, first-served basis and permit owners will be given access to Lot 40. Please note: From 4pm to 7am, Residential Satellite permits are valid in residential zones. SBU Transit does not run 24 hours a day. Please be aware of the transit schedules when choosing this option.
Multiple Vehicles
All vehicles must be registered in the new parking management system. Only one registered vehicle can be parked on campus at a time.
  • Commuter students will be able to register a maximum of 2 vehicles at a time.
  • Residential students will be able to register a maximum of 1 vehicle at a time.
  • Students will be able to change vehicles through the parking portal as needed. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure their vehicle information is kept updated in the parking portal.
  • Please remember that all vehicles that park on campus must have a valid parking permit.
If you have any questions, please email parking@stonybrook.edu.
Important Transit Updates for the Fall 2025 Semester
  • Due to the ongoing construction of Seawolves Village, the Outer Loop bus route will no longer service the H Quad and Benedict stops, effective July 14th. We recommend using the M&H bus stop to access the Outer Loop route.

  • Please remember to download the new Stony Brook Transit bus-tracking app from your mobile device for up-to-the-minute live bus tracking on Apple or Android.
Email transportation@stonybrook.edu with any questions. We hope you have a wonderful academic year.
