Thanks to the remarkable generosity of the KU community, International Affairs achieved its strongest One Day. One KU. showing to date—raising more than $92,000 in just 24 hours in support of international education.
In total, more than 100 donors came together to advance KU’s global mission, representing a 95% increase in donors, and a 7% increase in total dollars raised compared with last year.
Because of this support, every one of International Affairs’ four challenges was unlocked, resulting in:
- Nearly $10,000 in emergency aid for KU international students
- Funding for 45 first-time passports for KU students
- Nearly $9,000 in new study abroad scholarships
- Nearly $12,000 to support students learning critical foreign languages at KU
These gifts expand opportunity for Jayhawks on campus and around the world, strengthening KU’s global community and impact.

Diana Barteli Carlin, professor emerita of St. Louis University and former dean of international programs at KU, has been selected as the 2026 recipient of the prestigious NAFSA International Education Award for Leadership and Collaboration.
This award recognizes outstanding contributions to international exchange on a global scale. Diana’s decades of service—at KU, Saint Louis University, NAFSA, and in communities worldwide—exemplify the award’s spirit. Her pioneering initiatives, including the Global Awareness Program (GAP), strategic international partnerships, faculty recognition programs, and ongoing work with immigrants and refugees through Assistance for Immigrants and Refugees (AIR), have left a lasting impact on international education.
“It is wonderful to see Diana receive this well-deserved recognition," said Charles Bankart, KU vice provost for International Affairs. "From the moment I arrived at KU in 2005, I saw firsthand her extraordinary vision and collaborative spirit that elevated our institution’s global engagement. Diana doesn’t just build programs—she builds people, partnerships, and a lasting legacy of internationalization that continues to benefit KU students, faculty, and alumni today. She remains an inspiration and a model for what dedicated, compassionate international education leadership can achieve.”
Diana will be formally recognized at the NAFSA 2026 Annual Conference and Expo this month. Her selection highlights the enduring strength of KU’s international programs and the global influence of its educators.

CGIS: Shoutout to Jennifer Duhamel, CGIS's assistant director, for her outstanding organization skills throughout the whirlwind of April activities at our center! Her hard work and unwavering dedication shone through as she tackled countless tasks with a consistently good mood and tireless readiness, never once saying no to our demands. Jennifer's attention to detail ensured everything ran seamlessly, from welcoming our visitors with such warmth and grace to meticulously planning their itineraries, activities, meals, and more. She truly embodies the spirit of an essential team member at CGIS, making everyone feel supported and appreciated. Her exceptional organization, positivity, and hospitality elevated our many April events. We are grateful for her irreplaceable role!
ISP: Shoutout to Chris Cowan, Natalie Friend, and Erin Smith for their hard work and dedication. Without their incredible work ethic, willingness to be flexible, and professionalism in managing crises we wouldn’t have been able to run a large program of 50 youth from Thailand.
