Matthew 28:18-20
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
New International Version (NIV)
They were where they were supposed to be!  Jesus told the disciples to meet him on the mountain and sure enough they did.  Some were worshiping, some were doubting.  Then Jesus offered them the greatest power, purpose and promise in the world.  The world has never been the same since that day!

Greatest Power:  “All authority has been given to me . . .”  If you ever wonder, by what authority does the church try to plant the gospel around the world through missionaries.  Jesus’ power.  How much power is that?  Enough.

Greatest Purpose:  “Make disciples of all nations.”  Do you think those eleven might have wondered, “And how are we going to do that?  We are from Galilee and Jerusalem.  Seriously, Jesus.”  No, seriously.  Jesus believed that his disciples could make disciples of all nations.  They started the process.  Are we doing our part?  As we go, baptizing and teaching.  We make disciples.  God believes that we all, as Jesus’ disciples, can make disciples everywhere we go.

Greatest Promise:  “I will be with you always . . .”  I was a wrestler once upon a time.  My older brother was better.  I made varsity but I didn’t win a lot.  Then one day my dad drove the team bus.  He walked in as my match began.  Suddenly, I could not lose.  My poor opponent had no idea what hit him.  Suddenly I was no longer just Duane Brooks.  I was Jerry’s son.  Jerry was in the room.  There are many things we cannot do in our own strength.  Good news:  we are not in this alone.  God is with us.  That is all we need to know to accomplish God’s great purpose.
Pray with me:
Father, we thank you for giving us a purpose as your people.  Thank you for power.  But most of all, thank you for your promise to be with us.  You told Moses and Joshua that you were with them.  You told the eleven apostles that you were with them.  Help us to look for your presence everywhere we go this week.  Then in your strength, let us accomplish your purpose for our lives today.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year our Every Day with Jesus readings will follow The Bible Project Read Scripture Plan.  Copies of this reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download
