In early March, a group of Breakthrough 11th graders left for Claremont, California for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Thanks to Breakthrough donors and advocates, Carolyn and Jack Long, who donated a private flight for our students and their advisors, students had the opportunity to spend 4 days visiting 5 colleges (Pomona, Scripps, Claremont McKenna, Pitzer, and Harvey Mudd). The best part? Jack Long generously flew our students himself!
Students heard from admission reps and 1st Gen organizations, learned about financial aid and how to pay for college and even met with a current Breakthrough college student and the President of Pomona College, Dr. Gabrielle Starr!
Students had some time to check out various landmarks in Los Angeles including Griffith Observatory, TCL Chinese Theatre, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Venice Beach, and the Santa Monica Pier.
