1 Kings 7:51
When all the work King Solomon had done for the temple of the Lord was finished, he brought in the things his father David had dedicated—the silver and gold and the furnishings—and he placed them in the treasuries of the Lord’s temple.
New International Version (NIV)
Are you anticipating an inheritance?  What will your family leave to you?  We have no control over what our relatives leave to us when they leave this world.  Perhaps even more importantly, what will we leave to our children and grandchildren when we depart to go and be with the Father?

David wanted to build a Temple to the Lord.  It bothered him that he lived in a palace and Israel’s house of worship was still a tent.  So he asked and Nathan the prophet told him yes.  Then God told Nathan “No.  David can’t build a house for me.”  So God told David, “I will build a family and lasting legacy for you but you will not build a house for me.”  So David left the work of building the Temple to his son Solomon.  Still David prepared materials and furnishings to put in the Temple when it was built.  Solomon included them in the Temple.

Today we celebrated the amazing life of one of our Tallowood members.  Bea Clark was taught to read by her grandmother.  Their textbook was Psalm 23.  She learned to read from her grandmother who taught her to read Psalm 23.  So the first words she read were, “The Lord.  The Lord is.  The Lord is my Shepherd.”  Now that is what I call an inheritance.   Melanie and I do not yet have grandchildren, but you know what I am thinking.  When we do . . .  How about you?  Larry Bertrand loves to quote, “You have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.”  Receive that inheritance, and be sure to pass it on to the next generation.
Pray with me:
Father, we thank you for ancestors who loved you first and best.  Help us to receive their faith intact and to pass it on to the future generations.  Let us so love you that our families will catch it and fall in love with you, too.  In the name of Jesus, our portion and inheritance.  Amen.
This year our Every Day with Jesus readings will follow The Bible Project Read Scripture Plan.  Copies of this reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download
the app at readscripture.org.  Read through the Bible with us in 2019!
Joyfully,
