Humble people do not write books about how they attained humility. The truly humble person is often the last to know they are humble. Perhaps the same can be said about the people of God. We may not take credit for walking closely with God, but others will surely notice.
Abraham walked with God. Abimelek noticed God’s blessing and favor in Abraham’s life. “God is with you in everything you do.” Knowing this, Abimelek wanted to be right with the man whom he knew was right with God. He asked two things of the man of God: deal truthfully with me and my descendants and show us kindness. Abraham agreed.
D. L. Moody heard evangelist Henry Varley pray, “The world has yet to see what God will do in, with, and through a person who is fully committed to him.” Moody said to God, “Then I will be that man.” The power of his ministry derived not from his gifts or his charisma but the power of God covering him like a blanket. People who heard him knew he had been with Jesus.
I know people who walk with God because I can see his power in their lives. This is magnetic. I want to be with people who want to walk with God. God’s presence in our lives is a sign of his grace and favor. We do not earn his presence. But his presence will not remain where there is falsehood and deceit. People who walk with God are kind to others.
