Proverbs 6:22-23
 When you walk, they will guide you;
    when you sleep, they will watch over you;
    when you awake, they will speak to you.
For this command is a lamp,
    this teaching is a light,
and correction and instruction
    are the way to life,
New International Version (NIV)
                One of my friends now has twenty grandchildren.  Solomon, too, had a large family.  He wrote Proverbs as an instruction manual to help his kids as they grew up.  He warns them against adultery and folly.  His teachings continue to teach us.

                My dad's Ozark wisdom could have become a book as well.  My brothers and I laugh when we think of how many times he spoke with his unique colloquialisms:  "Pay attention," "Do not rawhide my machine," "Have you had your feet under the table," "Quit actin' a fool."

                Solomon's hope was that his teachings about God would guide his kids as they walked, watch over them as they slept and speak when they awoke.  God's word helps us in the same way.  The goal of God's correction and instruction in our lives is not to confine us or to punish us.  God wants us to live.  His words lead us to life.  Are we listening?

Pray with me:
Our Gracious Father, who made the world with words, continue to speak truth over us and into our lives.  As Jesus called Lazarus forth out of the tomb, call us to life again.  Guide us today, watch over us as we sleep tonight, awaken us with your words of love and life, we pray.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
I want to invite you to join me in memorizing 52 passages this year from the 2017 set of Fighter Verses.  You can find the Fighter Verses App at the App Store on your phones or via this link  http://fighterverses.com/the-verses/fighter-verses/As we study the Bible this year, let's look at each text and learn what it says about God.
Joyfully,
