Watch Now! Great Plains Grassland Initiatives Featured on Cattlemen to Cattlemen
LEARN WHAT NRCS, RANCHERS, AND CONSERVATION PARTNERS ARE DOING TO COMBAT WOODY ENCROACHMENT IN THE GREAT PLAINS
|
The full, hour-long episode of Cattlemen to Cattlemen, the leading television program of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, featuring the NRCS' Great Plains Grassland Initiatives aired on November 29. All the segments are linked below for easy viewing or watch the full episode on Cattlemen to Cattlemen's YouTube channel.
The show is packed with great interviews from ranchers, NRCS and WLFW staff, and conservation partners. In a fast-paced hour, the show explains why woody encroachment is such a detriment to grasslands, what ranchers and the NRCS are doing to combat this major threat, and why fighting back against invading trees is important to ranchers, wildlife, and anyone who appreciates the Great Plains grasslands - one of the most imperiled and important biomes on earth.

Ranchers Stewardship Alliance Highlights Rangeland Analysis Platform
|
NEW VIDEO DEMONSTRATES HOW "RAP" CAN HELP RANCHERS MONITOR AND MANAGE THEIR GRASSLANDS
|
In a just-released video, the Ranchers Stewardship Alliance shares ranchers' experiences with the Rangeland Analysis Platform and how it helps them monitor and improve their grasslands.
The RAP and its associated applications provide users with a powerful and user-friendly tool for monitoring and assessing rangeland conditions. This video highlights how ranchers in Montana are using the platform to monitor woody encroachment, forage production, and more. Armed with this data, they can make informed decisions that allow them to adapt to changing conditions, implement projects, and best manage their land.

On-Demand Webinar Replay: Reducing Woody Encroachment to Conserve Rangeland Production in the Great Plains
|
LEARN ABOUT THE RANGELAND ANALYSIS PLATFORM, THE ECONOMIC IMPACT OF LOST FORAGE PRODUCTION DUE TO WOODY ENCROACHMENT, AND MORE...
|
The NRCS Conservation Outcomes Webinar Series recently featured WLFW-supported strategies to reduce woody encroachment on rangelands, driven by the emergence of new science documenting how woody plant expansion is causing nationwide declines in rangeland production.
Dirac Twidwell, WLFW science advisor and associate professor at the University of Nebraska, led the December 8 webinar, which is now available for on-demand viewing. Supplemental materials, including presentation slides and a one-pager about the research featured, are also online.
The one-hour webinar focused on new large-scale conservation efforts on working lands and detailed use of the Rangeland Analysis Platform, a tool that supports rangeland monitoring, decision-making, and more effective management. By effectively reducing woody encroachment, land managers across the Great Plains can restore healthy grasslands ecosystems and improve forage production.

Working Lands for Wildlife is the Natural Resources Conservation Service's premier approach for conserving America's working lands to benefit people, wildlife, and rural communities. In the West, WLFW is guided by two, action-based frameworks for conservation. The framework approach is designed to increase conservation and restoration of rangelands by addressing major threats to rangeland health and through the implementation of conservation measures that limit soil disturbance, support sustainable grazing management, promote the strategic use of prescribed fire, and support native grassland species. Together, the frameworks leverage the power of voluntary, win-win conservation solutions to benefit people and wildlife from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean.
