Student Affairs Good News Report for September 2016

Student Affairs directors submit information quarterly to include in the Good News Report prepared for the Miami  Board of Trustees.  It's a great way to let the board know what we are doing in Student Affairs. You may view the report here.
Advisor Interest Form
Every year, we have numerous student organizations who are one step away from completing the process of becoming a new organization or re-registering for the year. All they need is an advisor.
The Office of Student Activities and Cliff Alexander Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life has created a form to allow individuals interested in advising a student organization the opportunity to let our office know. Advisors can be faculty, staff, or graduate students. We have at least three organizations currently seeking an advisor, and there will be more on the way as students get settled and find their place on campus!
If you have an interest in this amazing experience, please fill out the Advisor Interest Form. Our Department will try to match you with an organization that matches your interests!  If you’d like to learn more about being an advisor (including the advisor job description), please visit the Student Activities website for more information.
If you have any additional questions about advising a student organization, please contact JS Bragg, jsbragg@MiamiOH.edu. For those interested in advising a fraternity or sorority, please contact Michael McPhee, mcpheema@MiamiOH.edu

Tech Tip of the Week

From Jen O'Brien
TIP: Create Gmail Contact Groups for one-step emailing of large groups without using the University Listserv System.
WHY: Do you frequently need to email a group of students, staff or committee members? Are you overwhelmed or annoyed by the listserv tool provided by Miami? Are you currently trying to remember every person and typing email addresses individually? Or pulling a list of emails from a spreadsheet or word document every time you need to send something to these groups? Gmail contact groups may be for you!
HOW? In Gmail, click the Mail drop down box in the top left corner of the window and select Contacts. In Contacts, click New Group from the list. Name your group in the box that pops up.
Add contacts to your group by clicking the person icon +. Type in or paste your list into this box.
Done! Next time you need to email the group, just type the name of the group in the “To” section and your email will be populated with all of the contacts in the group.
Please note: Unlike listservs, the email "send" section will show all the email addresses, just as if you had typed in everyone’s address. If you are working with a very large group or have cause to want to keep the email addresses out, you’re better off using Miami Listservs.

Assessment Soundbites

Does your department or program have assessment data to share? Please submit through the Assessment Soundbite Template
NASPA Undergraduate Fellows Program (NUFP):
Call for Mentors and Mentees
I am currently recruiting undergraduate students to join the NASPA Undergraduate Fellows Program (NUFP) AND interested Graduate Students and staff to be mentors for these students! NUFP is a mentoring program for students interested in exploring the field of student affairs and  who identify as a member of a traditionally underrepresented or historically disenfranchised student population, including, but not limited to Black/African American, Asian, Hispanic/Latino(a), Indigenous (Native American, Alaskan, Hawaiian), Multiethnic, Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, or as having a disability. Here is the link to the application which is due for fall enrollment on October 31st! If you know students who are interested and would benefit from this program, please send me their names and encourage them to apply! Additionally, if YOU would like to be paired as a mentor, let me know! If you have questions about the program, please contact Courtney Wallace at wallacc5@miamioh.edu. Thanks for your support in being intentional about diversifying the field of student affairs!
