Greetings, Everyone:
So, six + weeks into the fall semester, having already opened the season with a pop-up student art exhibition, a new student play festival and a successful Family Weekend orchestra and ensemble concert, it is clear that we’re up and running swiftly and with full force. At this point, we can begin to develop and enjoy a comfortable creative rhythm, balanced between classes, studio or practice time, rehearsal and study time with, oh yes, a dose of socializing and pure enjoyment…
We have been introduced to our various artistic, social and collegial communities, so now is the time to more fully explore new relationships and acquaintances with our peers and collaborators. The opportunity to meet and bond over shared goals and challenges is most always rewarding, and when it happens naturally through the course of a semester or a shared artistic collaboration, it often forms the basis for lifelong personal and professional relationships. I encourage you to take advantage of this productive period before the chaos of the holidays is upon us, to enjoy our DFPA community—and to consider inviting others to be a part of it as well!

When a tyrant Duke becomes jealous and a wrestling match sparks love, the pastoral Forest of Arden suddenly becomes a haven for banished cousins Rosalind and Celia, the noble Orlando, and a motley group of shepherds, jesters, and courtiers. In the face of exile, Rosalind and Celia don male disguises and take matters into their own hands in the pursuit of love. All the world’s a stage in this rollicking comedy, and its characters are the cleverest of players. Written over 400 years ago but charming as ever, Shakespeare’s As You Like It is jam-packed with mistaken identities, mysterious letters, witty banter, and a forest of lovers.
For more than thirty years, the Loyola English Department and Theatre Program have held the McElroy Shakespeare Celebration. This year's celebration will take place during the second weekend of As You Like It and will include a lecture by a Shakespeare scholar, Stephanie Shirilan, and a selection of performances. Room Usage Guidelines
The operations team spent much of the summer working in most our shared academic spaces (and a few of our supervised studios) to provide additional cleaning and equipment maintenance. With the large number of shared academic spaces in the DFPA it is especially important that we all contribute to their upkeep. To that end, please comply with the following Room Usage Guidelines. These guidelines and standard layouts are posted on the wall in most of our shared academic spaces.
- Use only dry erase markers on the whiteboards.
- Clean up the room, including the whiteboards.
- Place all trash in receptacles, food and drink containers should be put in the main hallway receptacles.
- Do not add/remove furniture or equipment to/from the room without permission. A room inventory is posted in most shared academic spaces.
-
Rearranging furniture and equipment within the room is permissible, but the room should be returned to its standard layout at the end of use. A standard layout is posted in most of our shared academic spaces.
- Room schedules are posted outside most of our shared academic spaces. Please vacate the space in a timely fashion in order for subsequent events to begin on time.
-
If additional furniture and/or equipment is needed in order to facilitate the effective use f this space, or if there are any other concerns, please send an email to DFPAOperations@luc.edu.
-
If a piano is present, do not set anything on the piano; keep liquids away from the piano; and do not unplug the piano from the wall socket.
- Food is not permitted in Music Studios or Practice Rooms.

Work Orders
It takes a village to keep our facilities in good working order. If you notice something in need of attention by the Facilities Department, please file a Work Order. Anyone with a UVID and password can submit a Work Order. You can file a Work Order via this link, or by visiting the Facilities Department website and clicking on “Request a Word Order” on the left-hand side of the screen. There is also a handy how-to video on this page. If you are in a hurry, you can also visit the Mundelein Center Info Desk and ask the attendant to submit a Work Order.
