Experiential Opportunities |
GW SMHS Healing Clinic Patient Education Pilot Volunteer Program
The GW SMHS Healing Clinic, Bridge to Care location presents a new Patient Education Pilot Volunteer Program that you can get involved in. This program will include 1-on-1 patient education sessions, which will provide patients with information on relevant health topics such as management of diabetes and hypertension, vaccination benefits, STI awareness, and cancer screenings. Additionally, this will include initiatives in partnership with health care professionals and student organizations at GW SMHS. We hope to address some of the community’s health care needs and provide pre-health/ medical students with the opportunity for hands-on clinical experience. This would be a great opportunity to engage with patients in the greater DC area and profoundly impact their overall well-being. Competency in Spanish is preferred, but not required. If this is a volunteer role you would be interested in, please fill out this Google Form by Friday, December 6th to confirm your interest. Feel free to contact the Healing Clinic Education Liaison, Sofia Danzo, at sld105@georgetown.edu with any questions.

The Advanced Dermatology/Capital Dermatology BY Program, based just outside of Washington DC in Alexandria, Virginia, is entering its 21st year this coming May 2025. The program has been impactful for over 200 students since its inception in 2005. 95% of the BY students go on to further education in Medical and PA schools after graduating from the program.
The benefits of the program are extraordinary and endless but it is worthy to list a few of the attributes below:
Mentoring by a team of Physicians and PA’s all committed to furthering the education of the BY student
Cohort of over 25 students working together throughout the year
Hands-on surgical experience with multiple providers
Extensive patient connections with hundreds of interactions per week
Education sessions with the providers after patient hours to understand the day’s encounters
Electronic Medical Records exposure and fluency
Outside office activities with the providers and peers including book groups, hiking, and pickleball, just to name a few. All of these activities serve to foster a strong team experience.
The program leads to a lifetime of memories, educational experiences, and a set of friends for years to come. If interested, please have email your CV/Resume to bridgeyear@gmail.com. We will begin the hiring process in early January.
