 Walk With Us
Walk with Us for our 3rd Annual Downtown Unity Walk - Saturday, June 27th!
Join hundreds of your newest neighbors from different nations, cultures, and races to show your support for a more diverse and inclusive community.  While efforts for immigration reform stall in Washington, and cities nationwide struggle with community/police relations, this is an important opportunity to show our commitment to one another in our community - to ensure all lives are treated with dignity and worth, and that no one is left behind - it is time to put our faith and ideals into action and love our neighbors are ourselves.
We will begin gathering at FaithAction (705 N. Greene Street) at 3:30pm on June 27th, then begin walking, dancing and singing up Greene and Elm streets, and end with a vigil and "Stranger to Neighbor" picture event at the Municipal Building park.  Check out our pictures from last year's historic walk to see what the walk really looks like and means for our community.
Please join us on Facebook for more updates about this year's walk, and together lets make it one of the most remarkable moments of unity amongst diversity downtown Greensboro has ever seen or experienced!
Peace,
The FaithAction Team

FaithAction ID Conference!
We recently hosted educators, government officials, law enforcement, immigrant and faith leaders from eight cities across NC to be a part of a community ID conference in Greensboro - one of the first of its kind in the nation.  Participants learned and shared about the history, purpose, logistics and impact of community-driven ID prrograms, and how they can build greater understanding, trust and coooperation - hallmarks of an inclusive and diversse community.

Since the conference, we've trained over twenty outstanding volunteers in Alamance County who will launch the FaithAction ID program later this month, and cities from Winston-Salem and Charlotte to Cincinnati, Ohio have sought help from FaithAction in replicating a similar program in their community.  Thank you to all of the wonderful guests, including Prof Els DeGrauw from New York City for her expertise, and to the Susan J. Edwards Foundation for their generous support in making this impactful conference possible.

Next ID Drive and Become a Community Partner
Our next FaithAction ID drive for any resident in need of a valid form of identification will take place on Friday, June 26th at the Mullin Life Center of First Presbyterian Church (706 N. Greene Street - directly across from FaithAction).  Doors open at 9am, and participants MUST attend a mandatory orientation at either 10am or 1pm.  Participants MUST also provide a photo ID (passport, national ID card, expired driver’s license, etc..) and proof of current address (electricity bill, bank statement, etc..) in order to receive an ID! Cards are $10, and must be renewed after one year!

FaithAction ID cards are officially accpted by the Greensboro Police Department and several other police departments in Alamance County, as well by several Greensboro city departments including: water, parks and recreation, and city libraries.  Our next step is to build an even broader base of support from cultural institutions and businesses throughout our region this year - would your organization be interested in partnering with the FaithAction ID program?

By accepting the FaithAction ID card and providing a benefit or disount to card-holders your organization will be listed as a valued community partner on our website, Facebook page, and will be recognized at future FaithAction ID events.  As a community partner you will attract new visitors, while supporting an inclusive and diverse community - it's a win-win for everyone!  Please contact Cristina Jacome at cristina@faihouse.org to become a FaithAction ID partner today!

Stranger to Neighbor Dialogues!
We had a wonderful Stranger to Neighbor Dialogue this Spring focusing on the unique and inspiring ways our diverse faith communities are loving their newest neighbors as themselves.  Thank you to S2N Congregation St. Andrew's Epsicopal Church for hosting and leading the way!  Our next S2N dialogue will take place on Thursday evening, July 30th, and will focus on how diverse cultures and faiths use expressions of dance and movement to honor, celebrate, and build bridges of understanding, trust and cooperation with their newest neighbors. S2N congregation Guilford Park Presbyterian Church will host, as well as share their own commitment to connecting their faith with dance, health and wellness.

Serving Latinos Trainings!
FaithAction is happy to provide another year of Serving Latinos trainings throughout North Carolina!  These day-long trainings help social service providers working in education, health, law enforcement, and domestic violence shelters to better serve, and provide proactive outreach and education with their newest Latino neighbors.  This work, funded by the NC Council for Women, includes a special focus on addressing domestic violence within the Latino community.  Trainings over the next year will take place in Guilford, Sampson, Cleveland, Burke, Pasquotank, Camden, DARE, Lenoir, and Yadkin counties.
LGBTQ Resource Guide and the Immigrant Experience!
As a follow up to our S2N Dialogue from last fall - Connecting our diverse immigrant and LGBTQ communities - we are pleased to offer the following LGBTQ resource guides in English and Spanish.  The guides offer invaluable information on LGBTQ focused and friendly agencies and businesses in the Triad region.   We are addditionally happy to be working with Irving Zavaleta who will be offering a presentation on understanding and connecting to the Latino LGBTQ experience on Monday, June 29th in partnership with the Guilford NonProfit Consortium.  Please contact Irving at izjconsulting@gmail.com to request a presentation.
