Hurricane Milton recovery efforts &
how to prepare for future disasters
|
|
|
It's been a week since Hurricane Milton made landfall on Florida's Gulf Coast and moved over Central Florida, and only three weeks since Hurricane Helene devastated portions of the Big Bend and Southeast.
As so much of our state works to recover, we stand with those who were affected in our community as well as Habitat for Humanity of Florida and other affiliates across the state in our commitment to restore and create resilient communities.
If your home did suffer damage, please visit our website to find post-storm resources to help you recover. You can also sign up to meet with one of our certified housing counselors to guide you.
On Oct. 30, we will host a Home Insurance & Disaster Preparedness class. Experts will talk about how to navigate the home insurance claim process and how to feel more confident in your disaster prep knowledge going into the rest of hurricane season. The first 43 attendees are eligible to receive a free Resilience Kit (pictured above) thanks to The Home Depot Foundation.

Let’s talk trash: Steps to give your
waste bins a spa day |
While often overlooked, the cleanliness of our waste receptacles plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy and pleasant home environment. Just like any other part of your home, your trash cans deserve a regular spa day to keep pests and odors away.
Dirty trash bins can become a breeding ground for bacteria and mold. Food residues and spills create a damp, nutrient-rich environment perfect for germs to thrive. This not only leads to foul odors but can also pose health risks, particularly for those with allergies or respiratory issues. Additionally, a buildup of grime can attract pests like flies, ants, and rodents, turning your trash cans into hosts for unwelcome guests in your home.

Let's give a hand to Hanson Construction! 👏 |
Today we want to shoutout our longtime partnership with Hanson Construction! Tony Hanson and his company have been part of Habitat Orlando & Osceola's mission for over a decade, serving as the general contractor for the remodel of our current office, and now a supporter of our annual Homes Fore All Golf Tournament.
“I really enjoy working with Habitat for Humanity," Hanson said. "I have a deep passion for family and community, and I feel that Habitat for Humanity shares that same passion."
