February is a celebration of Black History.
Black History Month is a chance for Americans to learn details of our nation’s history that, unfortunately, are far too often neglected and pushed to the wayside. As the saying goes, black history is American history — and it’s a varied and rich history.
At Elysian we are sharing information daily about Black history with our students. The goal is that the contributions and sacrifices of many people will find a way into our student’s hearts and minds. We have much to learn.
We will have our second Community Meeting on Thursday Feb.28th at 1:15 pm to share the work we learned during this month. More information to follow.
“A wise nation honors and learns from its past. It refuses to let the most important facts about our shared and collective memory disappear into the depths of forgotten history. What happened in the past shapes and informs where we are heading in the future, and it’s of paramount importance to set aside a month for learning as much as we can about black history”.

The party and auction committee are in overdrive at the moment for our Mardi Gras event! We've collected a number of amazing items already, including tickets to sporting events and concerts; getaways; new restaurants for our popular "Dine-Around" packages; and, NEW this year, "teacher time" opportunities. Please be on the lookout for tomorrow's "All-in Tuesday" newsletter where we launch a weekly series detailing some of the exciting prizes made available through our generous parent, staff, and local business communities.
We're working hard to make a memorable event for our community AND help to provide Elysian Charter School with solid funding for next year — and we can't do that without YOU!
Tickets are available at www.elysian.givesmart.com. It's guaranteed to be a great night of fun, food, and fundraising, so please consider inviting friends and family to join you at a special guest rate, also available at the link provided.

While we reach out to our generous local business community for its help in providing a varied selection of services and restaurants for our silent auction, it is often our FAMILIES that provide the most sought after and unique experiences. We are looking for: EXPERIENCES: Tickets (concerts/theater/TV tapings/sports etc.), behind-the-scenes tours, exclusive access to special locales or opportunities, NYC restaurant certificates, etc. EXCURSIONS: A weekend in a vacation home, hotel stays, golf outings, boat tours, etc. EXPERTISE: Home services (landscaping, design, carpentry, etc.), health & wellness etc. ITEMS: Gift baskets, small appliances/electronics (new-in-box please), jewelry, shopping certificates, sports/entertainment memorabilia etc. Our goal is to have a variety of items that can help raise significant funds for the school and we can only do that with your help. We are ideally seeking new items or special experiences, valued at roughly $200 or more. (However, if something is less than that, unique, or you are unsure of the value, please don't hesitate to contact us.) Please know that while we hope to be able to include all donations we may not be able to accommodate all items, or may need to group items together. Thank you very much for your consideration of this request and for your support!

Thanks to all who have already particpated in Elysian Loves Literacy (ELL)! Please remember to return completed dedication stickers, donor sheet, and a check for the amount collected (cash accepted if needed) to your child’s teacher. If you do not need the dedication stickers your child received, please return the blank stickers so that Friends can reallocate the stickers to fulfill online orders. The ELL campaign officially ends on February 27; however, we would be especially grateful to receive your completed orders and/or blank stickers before February break begins on February 14. We are pleased to note that some of our donors have been able to secure matching funds from their companies for their ELL donations. If this may be an option for you (or for those your child is selling stickers to), please note that the organization to reference is The Friends of the Elysian Charter School of Hoboken, Inc., tax ID 22-3536228. Thank you for your support!

| A note about attendance: The New Jersey State Law is very specific about school attendance. By law, children are expected to be in school every day unless they are ill. There is no room in the law or regulations to excuse any children who have prior plans. We must mark all children absent who are not in attendance.
