Dear NYU Silver Students,
As the Spring 2021 semester draws to a close and you are completing finals and preparing for either graduation, summer break, or the next semester, I wanted to give you an important update about NYU’s plan for the coming academic year.
The schedule of Fall classes will be released on Monday, May 3 and registration will begin the week of May 24, so I want to make sure that all students have the important information they need as they make decisions about the coming academic year.
Fall 2021 Classes Will Be in PersonAs many of you may already be aware,
NYU announced that starting Fall 2021, all schools must hold classes fully in-person and that all students will be required to be vaccinated. The expectation is that all classes will return to their pre-COVID type of instruction, with almost all classes in person except for a handful of remote or blended courses that existed prior to NYU moving fully online due to the pandemic.
What does this mean for Silver Students?
While there may be few options for online classes, no student will be able to take a full course load remotely. For example, all Practice classes across the Silver campuses will be offered in-person with no remote option. This is not just NYU policy; New York State regulations limit our options as well. Since NYU Silver is not approved as a provider of online degree programs, students must have at least 51% of their credits in person (with the exception of the 2020-21 academic year for which a waiver was issued). Students whose credits are more than 50% online outside of the COVID waiver period risk the possibility that New York State will not recognize their NYU degree.
Students who have an existing disability or medical condition that might limit their ability to attend in-person classes under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) should reach out to the
NYU Moses Center for Student Accessibility and request reasonable accommodations. At this time, we do not know what social distancing rules will look like inside the classrooms, but the University is closely monitoring updates and changing regulations from the CDC, the State, and the City.
Changes in Scheduling of Classes
For those students planning a return to Washington Square, the University further announced that all Schools must follow the NYU Standard Schedule. This is a schedule of class times that is largely different from what we have traditionally done at Silver. These changes have been made so that the campus can make better use of its classroom space.
As you can imagine, there will be more updates about classes and COVID-19 precautions well into the summer, and we will keep you informed about those changes as they are announced by the University. In the meantime, please feel free to use this
Fall 2021 form to submit your questions and input.
Best regards,
