SEPTEMBER 2022
It's never too early to plan for your retirement. And TRSL's annual member statements make it easy for you to keep track of where you stand. Member statements for 2022 are now available through TRSL's secure Member Access.
Statements show your salary, contributions, and service credit as reported by your employer(s) for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2022. You will also see accumulated funds, total service credit, current beneficiary designation(s), and your home address.
  • If you have at least five years of service credit and have not entered DROP, your statement will include projected years of service, retirement benefits, and date of retirement eligibility based on the current fiscal year.
  • If you participated in DROP and continued working, your statement will provide an estimate of your retirement benefit, including your after-DROP supplement.
How to access your statement:
  • Once logged into Member Access, select "Member Account Statements" from the "My Account" drop-down menu.
  • If you have any problems registering or logging in, TRSL’s Help Desk (225-925-6460) can assist you. (Help Desk hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.)
Check your statement for accuracy:
  • If you notice an error in salary, contributions or service credit, check with your employer first. They may need to submit a correction to us.
  • If you need to update your name, address, or beneficiary designation(s), just submit the appropriate form. (Active members who haven’t entered DROP can complete name and address changes through Member Access.)
Want to crunch the numbers yourself?
Check out our online calculators in Member Access. They’re preloaded with your personal information, so you can estimate your future benefit with a few clicks of the mouse.
Once logged in, select “Estimate Your Retirement Benefit” from the “My Estimates” drop-down menu across the top of the page.
  • If you have any problems registering or logging in, TRSL’s Help Desk (225-925-6460) can assist you.

Success at the session!
The 2022 Regular Session adjourned on June 6. Five key bills that impact TRSL received final legislative passage. These bills, which included a cost-of-living increase and changes to Louisiana’s return-to-work laws, will have increased significance to you as you approach or enter retirement. Here’s a recap of the bills and resolution that passed this year.
  • Permanent Benefit IncreaseAct 657 granted a 2% permanent benefit increase (PBI), which was paid on July 1, 2022, to eligible TRSL retirees, beneficiaries, and survivors calculated on the first $68,396 of their annual retirement benefitd.
  • Payments toward the IUALAct 170 makes a supplemental appropriation of $48.1 million to the TRSL initial unfunded accrued liability (IUAL) from a portion of the FY 2020-21 surplus funds in the state treasury.
  • Social Security OffsetsHouse Concurrent Resolution 11 urges and requests state legislatures to ask Congress to review and eliminate or reduce the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO) Social Security benefit reductions.
  • Return to Work (RTW)Act 549 and Act 601 make significant changes to the RTW Law, including expanding critical shortage qualifications and adding new provisions for retirees reemployed in particular subjects, reemployed to fill particular vacancies, or reemployed as adjunct nursing professors in postsecondary institutions. Be sure to check out the resources below if you plan to return to work after you retire.

Are you nearing retirement and already thinking about returning to work?
If so, make sure you familiarize yourself with Louisiana’s return-to-work (RTW) laws. Depending on your date of retirement and in what capacity you are reemployed, you could be subject to RTW requirements, including a waiting period, earnings limit, or benefit suspension during reemployment.
To make sure you understand how the RTW laws may affect you, be sure to check out these resources, or contact us.
