Psalm 60:12
With God we will gain the victory,
and he will trample down our enemies.

New International Version (NIV)
When did you come closest to dying?  Each of us has had a near miss or two.  I remember a scary moment on top of a mountain in my childhood, a menacing Montanan beside a waterfall in my youth, and an emergency surgery in my 40’s.  Such experience provide clarity.  What matters?  What doesn’t?

David and his men fought a valiant battle against their enemies.  The language of the psalm suggests he almost bit the dust.   He knows that God who loves him is the only one who can deliver and save him.  God is big.  But David almost died, apparently.  Clearly, he realizes that God alone gives aid against the enemy.  Human help is worthless.

In the end, despite his difficulties of the day, David decides to live life with God.  Dallas Willard distinguished the “with God” life from a life in which we live oblivious to God’s good design and purposes.  We could live life against God or we could say that we are for God.  True victory is found in going with God.  We are all going somewhere today.  Will we go with God?  Today?  Now?  Good choice.

Pray with me:
Father, thank you for being with us today.  Your record is unblemished.  You never leave us or forsake us.  Our record . . . well, not so much.  Today Lord, we want to live a “with God” life.  You have promised to be with us.  Help us to live each moment of this day consciously in your presence.  “Let us become more aware of your presence.  Let us experience the glory of your goodness.”  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year our Every Day with Jesus readings will follow The Bible Project Read Scripture Plan.  Copies of this reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download
the app at readscripture.org.  Read through the Bible with us in 2019!
Joyfully,
