If you could see God and tell him one thing, what would you say?

Isaiah 6:1-4
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple.  Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.  And they were calling to one another:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty;
    the whole earth is full of his glory.”
At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.

New International Version (NIV)
                 If you could see God and tell him one thing, what would you say?  I only ask because people frequently tell me, “When I see God I am going to ask him (fill in the blank).”  Who knows when but we will likely get our chance.  Are we ready?

                In the season of a leadership transition when King Uzziah died, Isaiah had his chance.  He encountered God in the Temple.  In fact, God filled the Temple with his glorious presence and power.  In an earth-shattering experience, the angelic voices resounded, “Holy, Holy, Holy.”  The whole earth is full of God’s glory.

                Like Moses at the burning bush, Job at the end of his questions, and Elijah in the cave, Isaiah had a face to face encounter with God.  In all these experiences, the presence of God is so overwhelming that the people who saw him found themselves spiritually speechless.  Then God asks who will go and give his message.  Whatever else Isaiah had in mind, he found himself saying, “I am here, Lord.  Send me.”

                If God told us what he wanted us to do, would we do it?  It turns out that God has a plan for the whole world and also for our lives.  In worship those two plans intersect.  We can talk with God about the news, or we can listen to his voice and become his messengers.  What will we do?  Who knows when, but we will likely get our chance.  Are we ready?
Pray with me:
Father, forgive us for thinking that we need to be heard.  Release us from the need to speak so that we can hear you clearly.  What would you like for us to do with the life you have given to each of us today?  If you are looking for someone to go for you, here we are.  Send us.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year our Every Day with Jesus readings will follow The Bible Project Read Scripture Plan.  Copies of this reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download
the app at readscripture.org.  Read through the Bible with us in 2019!
Joyfully,
