Psalm 19:7-8
The law of the Lord is perfect,
    refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,
    making wise the simple.
The precepts of the Lord are right,
    giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant,
    giving light to the eyes.

New International Version (NIV)
“God’s Law is not bad.  We are.” In response to those who criticize God’s law, Alistair Begg answered with these words.  How should we as believers relate to the words of the Old Testament?
In this beautiful Psalm, David begins by telling us that the heavens declare God’s glory.  Then he describes God’s law as perfect, trustworthy, right and radiant.  Through his law, God refreshes our souls, makes the simple wise, gives joy to the heart and light to the eyes.
Later Paul would tell us that the law acted as a teacher until the coming of Christ.  Christ fulfilled the law perfectly.  We have not kept God’s law, but God is still faithful to his word.  Today he wants to refresh us, enlighten us, fill us with joy and give us light.  God’s message to us is good.  Are we listening?
Pray with me:
Father, speak to us through your word today.  Let us take your word to heart.  Refresh our souls we pray.  Make us wise.  Fill us with your joy.  Open our eyes to see your perfect light.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
