Banner Year for Salpointe Athletics
Thank you to all who have supported Lancer athletics this year - it has been an incredible year so far! In the Fall we had two teams that earned State Championships: Women’s Cross Country and Women’s Volleyball. Our Men’s Golf team was State Runner Up for the second year in a row. Football made it to the State semifinals and Women’s Golf, Men’s and Women’s Swim/Dive, and Men’s Cross Country all had quality finishes in their respective State Tournaments.
Our Winter season was just as successful! The Women’s Soccer team finished their season with a 4-0 victory over #2 seeded Thunderbird to win the 4A State Championship! Our Men’s Soccer team lost in the State Championship game to #1 seeded Coronado in a thrilling game that went into two overtime periods and was eventually determined by penalty kicks. Two Lancer wrestlers placed in the State Tournament. Women’s Basketball placed 3rd in the Region, and our Men’s Basketball team finished a great season as the 2017 4A State Runner Up!
As we begin the Spring sports season, we have a lot to look forward to. We have 10 active sports: Softball, Baseball, Men’s and Women’s Track and Field, Men’s and Women’s Tennis, Men’s Volleyball, Men’s Lacrosse, Men’s Rugby, and Women’s Beach Volleyball. It means the world to our student-athletes when our community comes together to support them. Please find time to come to a game and cheer on our Lancers!

Campus Ministry Wants to See Your Kairos Photos
Lancers, we need your help! We are trying to build our album on the history of Kairos and would love to see your photos.
We don't have any photos from the first 50 Kairos, and are trying to determine exactly when and how the spelling changed from Chiros to Kairos.
Do you have photos or memories to share (from any year)? Please send them to our Director of Campus Ministry, Lisa Astrouski at lastrouski@salpointe.org and be sure to include the Kairos group number, year or any names you can.
CARMELITE VALUES IN ACTION
Kino Teens Host "Walking in Mercy" Summit
Salpointe's Kino Teens hosted the 2nd annual "Walking in Mercy" summit in early February, gathering teens from Brophy College Prep, Notre Dame College Prep, Lourdes Academy, San Miguel High School, St. Augustine High School and our Lancers for a day of prayer, information and advocacy. Bishop Gerald Kicanas, D.D. encouraged the teens to continue their work of providing support and voices to refugees.
The students attended workshops on Creating Safe Spaces in our schools, Providing Advocacy through our representatives in Congress, Building Strong Clubs, and learning the intricacies of the immigration process in the United States. Students had the opportunity to meet Kino Teens from the other schools, and to work with them in creating skits presenting the situations that refugees and immigrants face. The day began with a prayer service/meditation themed around the compassion of Mary, our Advocate, and concluded with the celebration of the Mass, where the hospitality and strengthening of the table of the Lord, our table of unity, was emphasized. The day was organized through the partnership of the Kino Border Initiative and the participating schools. Photos by Hayden Hilkemeyer '18
