Giving A Boost (GAB)
Giving A Boost (GAB) is a national organization dedicated to supporting future medical students by connecting them with current medical students in their region. Our goal is to provide guidance on key components of the application process, including personal statements, secondary essays, and interview preparation.
This mentorship is completely free, and we’re currently gauging interest for the upcoming cycle. We kindly ask that you share this opportunity with your pre-medical students. Interested students can learn more and sign up by completing the form below:

CULI 1810 - Fundamentals of Culinary Medicine
Open for Summer and Fall 2025 registration! This elective blends hands-on cooking, nutrition science, and public health.
Imagine waking up to the smell of bubbling shakshuka or preparing a vibrant chimichurri shrimp dish with friends, all while learning how food choices impact long-term health. In this course, students gain practical cooking skills, a foundation in evidence-based nutrition, and a deeper understanding of the role food plays in health and community.
Students will:
Build confidence in the kitchen and learn how to create flexible, nutritious meals that suit their lifestyle and preferences
Develop a deeper understanding of how nutrition impacts personal and public health
Learn how to interpret and apply nutrition science in everyday life

National Zoological Park- Lion Tiger Department Internship

Number of Positions: 1 unpaid internship
Length of Internship: 15 weeks, 240 hours total, during the fall semester (start and end dates flexible)
Intern Schedule: 2 set days per week, 8 hours per day, between 7 am and 3 pm
Internship Description: The selected student will work under a keeper in the Lion Tiger unit of the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington, DC. The intern will learn husbandry and management techniques for a wide variety of animals including lions, tigers, Andean bears, bobcats, prairie dogs, porcupines, maras, bat eared foxes, lynx, Pallas’s cats, and additional animals as needed. The intern will learn husbandry skills, including diet preparation, enclosure cleaning and maintenance, enrichment preparation, and behavioral observations. The intern will also gain public speaking skills by interpreting animal behaviors to visitors. By the end of the semester, the intern will complete a poster or a presentation with a focus on an animal husbandry procedure.
The intern will not have any direct contact with collection animals. The selected intern must be able to work in all types of weather, lift 50 pounds, follow all safety protocols, complete health screenings, and complete a background check.
Target Audience: This internship is designed to provide interns to explore careers in the zoo husbandry field. The internship is an entry-level program, and as such applicants with prior zoo experience may not find it very beneficial. Applicants interested in other aspects of the zoo field, including laboratory research or veterinary medicine, may not find this internship applicable. Students, recent graduates, or individuals in the workforce with little to no experience in a zoo setting are encouraged to apply.
Current students will receive support to earn college credit for their time spent in the program. The Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute is committed to an environment that is inclusive and welcoming. Special Olympics Maryland: Fit Feet Screenings
Special Olympics is the largest global public health organization dedicated to serving people with intellectual disabilities. The Special Olympics Healthy Athletes Program offers health screenings in nine areas: Fit Feet-podiatry, FUNfitness- physical therapy, Health Promotion- better health, nutrition and well-being, Healthy Hearing- audiology, MedFest -sports physical exam, Opening Eyes- vision, Special Smiles- dentistry, Strong Minds- mental and emotional health, and Healthy Young Athletes- pediatric screening. Special Olympics Maryland is currently recruiting trained medical professionals and medical professional students to volunteer as Healthy Athlete Volunteers at this year’s Summer Games event this summer!
Our Healthy Athletes Screening event will take place at Towson University on Saturday June 21st and getting involved in our Fit Feet Screening could be a great opportunity for you to get hands on experience and knowledge working with individuals with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics Fit Feet offers screenings to evaluate ankles, feet, lower extremity biomechanics, and proper shoe and sock gear to participating athletes. Fit Feet helps Special Olympics athletes step lively on the playing field, and in everyday life. Many athletes suffer from foot and ankle pain, or deformities that impair their performance.

NOVA Dermatology Specialists
A new dermatology practice opening in Lorton, VA (25 minutes south of DC) seeking an energetic and enthusiastic candidate interested in making a difference in our patients’ health. You will be intimately involved in taking care of each patient, thus must have excellent attention to detail, pleasant demeanor, a positive "what can I do to help" attitude, be efficient under pressure and have the ability to learn quickly.
The responsibilities include but are not limited to:
*Greeting and rooming patients, preparing them to be seen physician
*Obtaining patient's reason for visit, medical history, medications, & allergies
*Scribing visit in EHR
*Setting up biopsy trays, cosmetic procedures, and surgical procedures
*Assisting in procedures
*Removing sutures
*Providing patient education
*Prior-authorization for medication/prescription refills
*Help answer phones/schedule appointments
*Cleaning and stocking examination rooms
*Sterilizing equipment
*Patient call backs (biopsy results, labs, prescriptions, questions)
*Ability to effectively communicate with patients, doctors and coworkers in a professional & courteous manner
*Use customer service principles to diffuse occasional challenging patient encounters
*Ability to follow instructions with minimal supervision
*Jumping in to help out where needed throughout each day
*Miscellaneous position related duties as assigned
