Happy Two Year anniversary of the GW Staff Council's existence! Here is a link to the monumental GW Today article "Staff Council Forms."
In the two years since GW OGC ratified our bylaws, we formed a Staff Council that serves as the unified voice for GW staff and have forged many valuable relationships with the GW Administration. I am so proud of what we have accomplished in such a short amount of time. If you feel your voice is still not being heard, I encourage you to engage with your elected Representatives. By joining one of our committees, you can have a significant impact on initiatives and solutions that we bring forward to GW leadership.
We have some BIG meetings coming up later this month of April, so please mark your calendars and register for the following. Next week (Tuesday, 4/15 at 11am) during our April All Staff meeting, we will meet with Dorinda Tucker, Associate Vice President & Data Privacy Officer, GW Office of Ethics, Compliance, and Risk, to discuss the new proposed policy review process and elect a new Parliamentarian. Please use this link to register for our April Staff meeting.
On Tuesday, 4/22 at 11am, we will be joined by Provost Chris Bracey and CFO Bruno Fernandes. Before the Staff Council was established, we had tried to book meetings like the one for years, so I am thrilled for us staff to have the opportunity to meet with Provost Bracey. Please register for our discussion with the GW Provost & CFO using this Provost Discussion registration link or button below and please share the event with your coworkers and listservs.

Community Connections: Meet Your Staff Council Elected Representatives |
|
|
| Mallory McPherson-Wehan, Division of Student Affairs Representative |
|
|
Hi friends! My name is Mallory McPherson-Wehan and I'm the staff representative for the Division for Student Affairs. I am lucky to work with extremely dedicated, passionate, and caring individuals who commit their days to supporting students. I love getting to support students, but the reason I'm still at the university is truly my staff team and community in DSA. I am a part of the Staff Council because I believe that staff deserve the world and are the glue that holds the university together. My goal is to make sure real change happens for staff at GW!

Terry Carter, Communications and Marketing Representative |
| |
|
Terry A. Carter has been a dedicated member of the George Washington University community for nearly seven years and is now in his second year as the Staff Council representative for the Office of Communications and Marketing. As the office’s inaugural representative, he has worked for nearly two years to ensure staff voices are heard and considered in university decisions. Committed to ethical innovation and responsible governance – including protecting staff positions and ensuring opportunities for uptraining are available, Terry authored the 2025 Resolution on Ethical Implementation of Artificial Intelligence at George Washington University, which was recently passed by the Staff Council. He is passionate about fostering a university environment that embraces technology responsibly while upholding transparency and integrity. Through his role on Staff Council, Terry continues to advocate for staff interests—particularly fair pay and flexible work options—while promoting collaborative leadership at GW. Beyond his role at GW, Terry is pursuing a B.A. in political science at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and is set to graduate later this year. His academic excellence was recently recognized with induction into Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society. Outside of work and school, Terry lives in Massachusetts with his partner and pets. He’s passionate about animal welfare, enjoys running, and loves cheering on the Washington Spirit, Washington Nationals, and Carolina Hurricanes.

Call for Elected Representatives

Parliamentarian Position - OPEN
Do you love a smooth meeting? Are you somewhat familiar with Roberts Rules of Order? Are you looking to bring your voice to the Staff Council? Well you're in luck! With our current Parliamentarian leaving the University, we are looking for a replacement. The position description is below for your reference.
"The Parliamentarian is responsible for making sure staff council meetings stick to the agenda and keep meetings moving along with the times scheduled. This position will monitor conduct at staff council meetings and intervene when necessary to clarify the mission of this council. The Parliamentarian is precluded from being a candidate for any position in the election they manage."
