A message from the Friends Of Elysian Board of Trustees: Unbeknownst to her, (and likely against her wishes!) the trustees of the board of Friends of Elysian wanted to take a quick moment to celebrate our incredible Chairwoman, Jenifer Semenza.
She works tirelessly as the spearhead of all of Friends’ fundraising initiatives. Seeing her vision and hard work come to fruition at Friday evening’s cocktail party and auction further deepens our appreciation of all that Jenifer does for Friends, and for our school. Our school benefits so greatly from it all!
We thank you, Jenifer!

Absences and Lateness Matter
Our school door opens at 8:20 and students are expected to be in school by 8:30. While we don’t issue a tardy slip until 8:35, it is advisable that all students arrive by 8:30 in order to get settled and ready for learning by 8:35.
Our youngest students do not have any control of what time they get to school and they rely on you. Some of our classrooms have a very small number of students present at 8:30. School breaks – long weekends, mid- winter, spring break and summer break are times for family vacation. By extending your vacation by only a few days or taking a week off when school is in session, you are putting your child at a disadvantage. Learning is sequential—an absence is a missed opportunity to learn something your child will need in order to understand more difficult material later.
Additionally, when students apply to high school their attendance is considered along with grades.
Excessive absences also harm the school as well since absences are tracked by the state.
Two absences per month can add up to a child missing a whole month of school. We do not want a child to come to school sick or ill – that is not the goal. We fully understand that we all get sick at times and have no choice but to stay home to recover.
This is a reminder to get your child to school by 8:30 and refrain from planning extended trips when school is in session.
Please help your child by sending them to school on time and scheduling family vacation during time off from school only.

What is Elysian Charter Day Camp? Elysian Charter Day Camp is a fun-filled 4-week program for students entering kindergarten through 7th grade this upcoming fall. The program will include activities such as arts & crafts, sports, science experiments, cooking, field trips and more.
What are the weeks that camp is being offered? For the summer of 2019, camp will run the weeks of July 15th, July 22nd, July 29th and August 5th. Your child(ren) may attend one, two, three or all four weeks.
How much is the camp tuition? The tuition is $450.00/week per child. Any additional siblings can attend the camp for $400.00/week.
Who can attend the camp? The camp is open to any student entering kindergarten through 7th grade this upcoming fall 2019. You do not need to be an Elysian Charter School student to attend the camp.
Will my child be served lunch at the camp? No, we do not have the ability to serve lunch. Your child will need to bring lunch with them everyday that they attend camp. The camp will provide two snacks daily. If you have a picky eater, you may send your child(ren) in with their own snack. Please note that our camp is completely nut free.
Who are the camp counselors? Overseeing each group of campers, and leading the special activities, are some of our favorite Elysian teachers and staff members... but, they're not allowed to give homework over the summer!
What are the camp hours? Camp will run from 9:00am - 4:00pm each day. Early drop-off will be available starting at 8:30am for an additional $10/day. This summer, we are happy to also offer “after-camp” from 4:00pm -5:00pm each day for an additional $20/day.
Where will camp be held? Camp activities will be held in the air-conditioned classrooms and gym at Elysian Charter School, as well as our nearby outside play areas. In addition, each week will include off-site field trips, which will provide our campers extra adventure and fun!
*Registration forms are now available on our website, ecsnj.org. Camp enrollment is on a first come, first served basis.
What should I do if I still have questions? If you still have questions about the summer camp, please email summercamp@ecsnj.org, and we will respond as soon as possible.

10 am - Meet at Pier A Park
March to Union Dry Dock/Maxwell Place Park for Rally
The Union Dry Dock site is at risk. The multi-year effort to make it an integral part of Hoboken’s waterfront park would be forever lost if Governor Murphy decides that it should be the home of a ferry maintenance/refueling facility. This industrial use is incompatible with the kayaking, fishing, skateboarding, jogging, cycling and other public recreational uses at this site as well as the residential housing nearby.
Join the march & rally to send a message to Governor Murphy that this is absolutely the wrong place for this kind of activity at this unique, ecologically important site, especially given the fact that there are other far more suitable locations for this ferry facility. All welcome. Bring your kids, pets, bikes, scooters, etc.

| A note about attendance: The New Jersey State Law is very specific about school attendance. By law, children are expected to be in school every day unless they are ill. There is no room in the law or regulations to excuse any children who have prior plans. We must mark all children absent who are not in attendance.
