International Transfer Student Information Session
Were you issued a transfer I-20 for the start of the Fall 2020 semester but have been unable to come to the US to start your NYU program in person due to COVID-19 and need an updated I-20 to reflect a future entry or start date?
The US government provided a special exception for F-1 transfer students who were unable to return to the US for Fall 2020 because of COVID-19. In order to make use of this special exception and to keep your SEVIS ID number the same, our office would need to submit a request to the government to fix/change the start date on your I-20 to the following semester. This request is called a “data fix.” Because the government has thus far not indicated how long this data fix process will take, and because there is no guarantee that the data fix request will be approved, the alternative would be for you to forgo the data fix process and instead apply for an initial I-20 with a new SEVIS ID number.
At this session you'll learn the benefits and consequences of each of these two options in detail and also have a forum to ask any other questions you may have on this process.
