Matthew 4:18-20
As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.  “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”   At once they left their nets and followed him.
New International Version (NIV)
“We are going to hunt the fish.”  My friend Mark’s words came true.  On my knees in water up to my chest, I placed a small fly in the slick water.  The trout did not disappoint.  A beautiful “cutthroat” was soon fighting me.  Fly-fishing is an art-form.  I am still a novice.

Simon and Andrew were not recreational fishermen.  Commercial fishing was their livelihood.  Like James and John, they fished for a living.  Then one day Jesus invited them to follow him. Apparently, without any hesitation they left their livelihood in exchange for a new life.

Kierkegaard said that Jesus was never looking for admirers or adherents.  He called people to follow him.  He still does.  Today if we hear his voice let us follow him. We will never regret it!
Pray with me:
Father, tune our ears to the sound of your voice today.  Thank you for seeking and finding us.  Help us to bring others close to you today.  We pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year our Every Day with Jesus readings will follow The Bible Project Read Scripture Plan.  Copies of this reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download
the app at readscripture.org.  Read through the Bible with us in 2019!
Joyfully,
