Tallowood Times | Remember Tallowood Tomorrow

Dear Community of Joy Thank you for being a life-giving community. We love serving our Father with you in this exciting time. God is making all things new. I am especially grateful for the continuing leadership of our 2020 Implementation Group. They have been commissioned by the church to take the 2020 report from earlier this year and put it in the hands of staff and committees for implementation. Please pray with us for two important meetings, one on November 3 with just the committee and some of the staff, and then November 13, from 6:00 to 8:30, when we will meet with all the staff and many of our committee leaders to begin to think together about joining our God in what He is doing at Tallowood.

Visions become reality through prayer and hard work. I have been privileged to work over the last year with leaders of Tallowood who bathe all they do in prayer. They have also worked really hard to find God's plan and put it into place. Every day I see signs that God is leading us in the great work of making relationships, making disciples and making an impact. Pray with us about these priorities. What part will you take in these three strategies for the future of God's work in our city and world?

This week we will have a great opportunity to make relationships in our neighborhoods. Can you think of any other day of the year besides Halloween when so many of our neighbors knock on our doors? I have loved Trunk or Treat and Noah's Ark Parties which have brought so many to our campus through the years. Now I am excited about encouraging you to be in your home, lights on, giving the best candy on the block on the night of October 31. The "Salt" of the church will not all be in the shaker that night. You are commissioned to love your neighbors and engage them in relationships. May God bless you as you serve in this way.

Every time I pray for you, I pray with joy!

Duane

Beyond Blessed

Genesis 12:2-3 states, "I will bless you...so the world will be blessed!" God's statement to Abram is a promise to each believer. But the promise states that the provisions and blessings of God are not intended for our pleasure alone. The world, as close as your neighbor or as far as the opposite side of the globe, is looking for a blessing, a touch from God. The primary question the church asks in this annual emphasis on stewardship is easy to state and easy to answer.

How are you responding to the blessing of God?

Stewardship emphases are normally seen as efforts to fund the church. While it is true that the gifts of God's people are necessary to provide ministries, we really want to challenge members to seriously ask God how we should respond to His blessings. Whether your family chooses the tithe or grace as a measure of your response, is secondary to the main question. Have you talked to Him about your stewardship? Tallowood has mailed the annual stewardship challenge. Please prayerfully consider your response.
How to Help Children Without a Family

Monday, November 10, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in WT320, Family Hope at Tallowood, in cooperation with DePelchin Children's Center, is hosting an Orientation/Information meeting concerning Foster Care, Adoption, Respite and Transitional care. We are very excited about this new partnership with DePelchin. This meeting is a call to action opportunity for those interested in responding to the needs of orphans in our community. There are multiple ways an individual and/or family can "...care for the needs of orphans..." James 1:27.

Join us on November 10. Free childcare is available by reservation. Please register for childcare at tallowood.org/family-hope/. The deadline for childcare reservations is Tuesday, November 4. For more information contact Carol Kleckner at ckleckner@tallowood.org or 713.468.8241, ext. 8143.
Pipes & Patriots

On Tuesday, November 11 at 7:00 p.m., we will gather in the Worship Center to honor Veterans and those currently serving in the military. We are blessed to have Monte Maxwell, Organist of the United States Naval Academy, to give a musical performance you won't soon forget, and the University of Houston ROTC Color Guard will post and retire the colors. This is a community-wide event and everyone is invited. Take this opportunity to invite friends, co-workers, and the whole family and help educate our children on the value of freedom.
Orphan Sunday, November 2, 2014

"Christians stand for the orphan. We are a people called to defend the fatherless...to care for the child that has no family...to visit orphans in their distress." As stated on orphansunday.org.

An orphan is fatherless, motherless and completely alone. November 2, Orphan Sunday, is a worldwide event attempting to raise awareness to the cause, circumstance and needs of orphans. There are 153 million orphaned/abandoned children in our world today! Family Hope Ministry at Tallowood is responding by sponsoring a Devotional booklet. The Family Hope Devotional is a compilation of heartfelt devotions by Tallowood individuals and families impacted by orphan care through adoption, fostering, parenting and grand parenting. The booklet will be available November 1-2, and via email.

New Sunday School Class for Married Young Adults

"Bereans" is a class for post-newlywed couples in their 20's. Based on Acts 17:11, the Bereans received the message of God's Word with great enthusiasm and studied the Scriptures daily to see if what Paul told them was true. Many believed and shared the gospel in their immediate spheres of influence. The class will explore the Bible and its themes while seeking to apply it to the daily lives of today's young married couples.

Bereans meets in West Tower 313 at 10:00 a.m. every Sunday morning. Please come join us! For more information on Bereans or any of our Married Young Adult classes, contact John Music, Tallowood's Minister to Married Young Adults, at jmusic@tallowood.org or 713.468.8241.
