Donna Mitchell McCallister | Promoted from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor with tenure.

McCallister's research program broadly focuses on the development of multidisciplinary methods to maintain the profitability of agricultural production and economic viability of rural communities in the Southern High Plains. NEW HIRE: Ujjwol Paudel is a new Assistant Professor in the department. He studies the industrial organization of food and agricultural markets, using structural and empirical methods to understand market power, vertical bargaining, and how costs and competition affect consumers and workers. His work also draws on operations management, with a focus on supply chains and platform logistics. Read More »

NEW HIRE: Samantha Berumen is the Business Manager in the AAEC Department. She received her Master of Education in Higher Education Administration and her Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies from Texas Tech University.

RECOGNIZING IMPACT: Dr. Olga Murova, Associate Professor in the department, retired earlier this summer. Dr. Murova taught and conducted research in sustainable regional economic development, agribusiness and its supply chains, and the wine industry for 21 years. We thank Dr. Murova for her many contributions to the department and wish her a very happy retirement.

During the 2026 Maymester, Darren Hudson and Lowell Randel led a group of 10 students on an International Agricultural Policy Study Abroad to Europe. This study abroad acquainted students with international agricultural policy organizations through an immersive experience with stops in Washington, DC, Rome, Italy, Geneva, Switzerland and Brussels, Belgium. Students met with high-ranking U.S. officials as well as representatives from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World Food Program (WFP), World Trade Organization (WTO) and the European Union.

This summer, nine students embarked on an unforgettable journey through Experience Agribusiness in Costa Rica, a month-long study abroad program led by Dr. Shaikh Mahfuz Rahman. Based in San José from May 24–June 24, students took Agribusiness Marketing beyond the classroom, exploring Costa Rica’s vibrant agribusiness landscape through visits to Cafe-O-Teka, Green Ark and Costa Rica Meadery, Hacienda DOKA Coffee Plantation and Britt Coffee, and Copey Estate Winery. 

Wanjura received his bachelor’s and master’s of agriculture degrees in agricultural economics from Texas Tech. He is president and chief executive officer of Farmers Cooperative Compress in Lubbock, Texas.

Kaden grew up on a farm north of Hereford, TX, where he developed a passion for agriculture from a young age. He earned his bachelor's degree in Agricultural and Applied Economics from Texas Tech in 2018, and was recently in the inaugural cohort of the Davis College 30 Under 30.

Dr. Shyam Adhikari serves as Managing Director of Agricultural Analytics at Guy Carpenter, a reinsurance arm of Marsh McLennan, where he leads analytics efforts focused on agricultural risk. Dr. Adhikari earned his Ph D in Agricultural and Applied Economics from Texas Tech University, Lubbock in 2011.
