For my bridal shower a zillion years ago, my mom sent each guest a blank card to jot down a favorite recipe. When it was my college roommate’s turn to share her recipe, she told the group what I already knew—that she was completely hopeless in the kitchen. But she also wasn’t one to ignore an assignment, so she asked her older sister for help. And that’s how I ended up with my famous pumpkin bread recipe. The recipe calls for nearly equal amounts flour and sugar, which explains why everyone goes bonkers for it.

The ABCs of CBD
Would you like to sleep better, relax more and be pain-free? Perhaps you should try CBD. While the market for medicinal hemp has cooled off somewhat over the past few years, its use in practice is still invaluable. First things first, Hemp is not Marijuana!
They do come from the same cannabis plant but hemp or CBD oil as it’s more commonly known, has a significantly lower concentration of THC than marijuana does. THC is the component of both plants that in higher concentrations causes a high or psychoactive action for those who are scientifically inclined.
Some of the most common uses for medicinal hemp in my practice are pain and swelling for those of us who are active and have age-related joint aches of varying degrees. For those suffering from intense chronic pain, it can be a great adjunct to opiates or can even reduce the needed dosage of the pain medicine. Stress & sleep are another arena the hemp addresses. It has naturally calming properties at moderate dosages and at higher dosages produces hypnotic effects that produce deeper more restful sleep.
It’s important to discuss using hemp with a knowledgeable healthcare practitioner as there can be numerous drug interactions not to mention some consumers may wish to have a THC-free product, so a broad-spectrum not full-spectrum product would be warranted. There are thousands of products on the sometimes not so tightly regulated market, so where you buy your hemp is just as important as what you buy. Caveat Emptor as Father Murnane, my high school Latin teacher, used to say.

Fantastic HOLIDAY concerts!
For more than three decades in our region, VoxAmaDeus has presented performances of Handel’s masterpiece, now a Christmas season tradition. True to Handel’s vision, the work is performed on original Baroque instruments. Also this season marks the 37th consecutive year of our annual tradition of magical Renaissance Noël concerts, celebrating the glorious Christmas music of Old Europe, with masterpieces for single and double chorus, solo voices, and period instruments. A unique feature of these concerts is our Renaissance Consort performers exquisitely attired in lush Renaissance costumes.
Come and experience a joyful and traditional old-world Noël!
