Mummies and Pharaohs and Tombs, Oh My!
Mummies came to life in the third grade this week…. all in the name of engineering and math! Our students were challenged to break into small groups and create the tallest mummy using only newspaper, masking tape and toilet paper. Lots of math calculations, comparison graphing, writing and basic structural engineering principals (not to mention teamwork) were incorporated into the day's lesson as well!
Our second graders traveled to the land of the Nile during their Egypt Day on Friday. From ancient Egyptian government, hieroglyphics and art, to architecture and stories of daily life, our students were excited to showcase their learnings to their families and invited guests.
From the Middle School Halloween Dance and SCA Representatives Installation, to Science and STEM activities, be sure to check out our St M Media Gallery on our website for photo highlights of classroom learning and events from around our School this past week!
 Important Announcements:
Test of St M Emergency Notification System: Oct. 24
To ensure all of our families are connected to emergency notifications, we will conduct a second test of the emergency notification system at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, October 24. Please do not reply to the text OR call the school to verify receipt of the message.  If a family has students at both campuses, they will receive two texts (one for each campus).
We also do our best to post emergency updates and school closing information on our St M Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as on the home page of the School website.
Please contact the front office if your contact information changes to ensure that emergency information is communicated to everyone in a timely manner.

Join us for "Meetings with Michael"
Join Mr. Turner to discuss "How to ask about recess: Partnering with teachers to support children's social-emotional growth."  Play, especially unstructured play, offers children the opportunity to practice social skills and deepen emotional maturity. Understanding one's own emotions, interpreting and responding to others emotions, decision-making, creativity, and communication are all on display and in demand on the playground.

Merrill Geier, our Lower School coordinator, will share how St M supports children as they learn to apply lessons in empathy, enabling them to create positive social/emotional relationships before, during, and after recess.

  • Wednesday, November 2, 1:40-2:40 p.m., (Lower School, Dundas Hatcher Hall)
  • Thursday, November 3, 7:20 a.m.-8:20 a.m. (Lower School, Dundas Hatcher Hall)
Lower School Fruit and Vegetable Challenge!
The Lower School will once again be participating in the fruit and vegetable challenge starting on November 1st.
For the first 3 weeks in November, students who eat a serving of fruits or vegetables for either lunch or snack will receive a grade-specific sticky note.   Students will bring their notes to the gym during P.E. and line them up along the wall.  The grade with the most notes at the end of the month will earn an extra P.E. class and fruit party.  Students will additionally be discussing in P.E. class the importance of eating a well- balanced diet that includes a variety of fruits and vegetables.
Recycled Containers Needed for Collection of Composting Items

The gym is looking to collect approximately 12 large coffee ground containers or Clorox wipe type containers for use with our School composting program. Please send them to the gym. Many thanks!
