Compress and Shock Volunteer Opportunity
The Compress and Shock program provides GW students in pre-health and beyond with a unique, easy, and rewarding volunteer opportunity. We aim to engage with DC communities to bring free and equitable access to CPR/AED education to communities particularly affected by cardiac arrest due to race, ethnicity, primary language, or healthcare education access with the guidance of the Compress and Shock non-profit foundation.
The time commitment and academic burden are extremely low; all students are expected to do is attend a training event, and attend one or multiple community events throughout the academic year (the first of which is scheduled at Gallaudet University on 10/19)! Students will briefly learn how to administer CPR and AED in a "trainer-training" event at the beginning of the academic year; afterwards, various community engagement events (with anywhere from 10-30 community members each) will be scheduled throughout the year wherein students get to work together to teach members of various local DC communities CPR and AED use.
This volunteer opportunity spanning the year would provide students with rewarding insight on healthcare disparities while allowing them to actively lead meaningful, life-saving change through community engagement and applicable teaching experiences that are both low-maintenance and low-pressure. NO experience with CPR/AED use is necessary, nor is any teaching experience or healthcare knowledge; all that's required is a desire to help people! Join today! Email Kamran Mattu: kmattu5@gwu.edu
