Reflection by Brian Cadag
|
Earlier this year I was blessed to visit the lowest point on earth, the Dead Sea. Some of us may describe being at a low point in a negative manner, but the calmness of the waveless body of water was a highlight of the trip. The still waters beckoned me to wade deeper from the shore and as the water reached my head, I was met with the decision to trust what I had been told. Taking a deep breath, I relaxed and leaned back, and to my surprise, I was held up because of all the salt in the water. The joy of letting go and trusting that I would be kept afloat was a tough decision, but one that I will never forget. Being able to relax in the water was peaceful. Looking around, I saw my fellow brothers doing the same and enjoying the calmness of the sea.

This “letting go” and trusting reminds us of what we are called to do during this Lenten season. As we go forward we must remember that God is calling us deeper each day to encounter Him. As we progress forward, whether we are brought to low or high points, God wants us to take a breath and acknowledge His calm presence. Although we may be doing well thus far there is always more we can do as Christ calls us deeper each day. Instead of staying on the surface and keeping yourself in the shallow waters, we are called by God to move forward into the deep and trust in Him. God will keep us all afloat this Lenten season if we always come to Him and seek to enter deeper into His presence. Let us all remember to make time to be with God each day and relax in His presence where He will bring us deeper into His love.
