Entering Silver in Fall 2022, Phoebe Su is an NYU Silver sophomore engaging in numerous communities within and outside of Silver that foster connection and mental health support. Before beginning her journey at NYU, Phoebe worked with organizations that promoted sex education and women's empowerment. These internship experiences sparked her interest in social work and pushed her to apply to NYU Silver. Phoebe felt Silver would be the best environment for her to be educated on cultural competence and foster her leadership capabilities to empower marginalized groups. As a first-time international student in the United States, Phoebe found community at Silver which put her initial apprehension about the new environment to ease.
Working as the International Student Co-Representative with the Silver Undergraduate Student Association (USGA), Phoebe fosters community amongst Silver students through events like "Painting Together-Exchange Flowers." She seeks to build deep connections among Silver students while serving as an International Student Co-Rep!
In addition to this role, Phoebe is the overseer of promotional strategy and content development for the Mood Psychology Club at NYU. This club addresses the mental health concerns of Chinese students and partners with the Muhe Health Support Group! Within this role, Phoebe has spearheaded creative campaigns-bringing in 60 new club members and spreading awareness about mental health on campus! This awareness is spread through student-led magazines, organized events with licensed therapists, and fun events to create community amongst members.
When considering her long-term social work goals, Phoebe strives to address education accessibility and reform in international social work through initiatives that increase funding, supplies, and caring instructors for all students. She invites all Silver students to join the USGA to foster community and change amongst the Silver student body!
Thank you so much Phoebe for all you do!
