A Calling to Serve

People who join the Marine Corps vow to live by three core values: honor, courage, and commitment. So, it’s no surprise that Marine Corps Veteran and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Stephanie Bacino continues to embody these values each day. The daughter of a Vietnam War Veteran and the oldest of four siblings, Stephanie’s life and career have been guided by a strong work ethic, physical and mental toughness, and a passion for service. Following the Marine Corps, Stephanie served as a corrections officer for nearly 20 years before pursuing her dream career from childhood which was inspired by her grandmother: nursing. Read more.

In Memory Of...
Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Robert Barnes, an A.G. Rhodes Atlanta resident who recently passed away. Mr. Barnes participated in many A.G. Rhodes activities including monthly Current Events zoom sessions that reached peak popularity during the pandemic. Current Events was facilitated by A.G. Rhodes Trustee and retired broadcast journalist, Jocelyn Dorsey, who was honored to receive a request from Mr. Barnes' family to speak at his celebration of life. She also presented the family with a framed memorial gift in honor of Mr. Barnes' keen interest in talking about sports during Current Events.
Jocelyn said, "It was certainly one of the highlights of the celebration, especially when I explained how Mr. Barnes jokingly chastised me for not including sports in my monthly Zoom news presentation, which resulted in Alex (Van Winkle, A.G. Rhodes Board of Advisor) not only designing a sports logo incorporating Mr. Barnes' name but also volunteering to prepare a sports report every month."
At A.G. Rhodes, our residents and their families, staff, and board members form meaningful friendships, and residents leave lasting impressions on so many of the people they meet. Mr. Barnes will be deeply missed but his legacy will carry on.
If you have a loved one who was an A.G. Rhodes elder who recently passed away, email us at communications@agrhodes.org if you would like to include his or her name and link to the obituary in the next issue.
