Galatians 3:26-28
So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.  There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
New International Version (NIV)
Walking on the campus of a Christian university last week I found scriptures embedded in the sidewalks.  It was encouraging to see God’s word written on the walls of the buildings.  Another college inscribed words from this passage on the walls of a new building:  “We are all children of God.”

Is the partial verse right?  This idea is widely held in our world:  all people are God’s children.  Certainly we all derive our existence from God.  He is our Creator.  Paul told the Athenians, “In him we live and move and have our being . . . we are God’s offspring (Acts 17:28-29).

Context matters.  Paul is actually saying more to the Galatians.  Only in Christ Jesus are we all children of God through faith.  Paul speaks about those who have been baptized into Christ and have willingly clothed themselves with Christ.  Only in relationship with God’s Son do we become God’s children.  He adopts us into his family as we put our faith in him.  We are all God’s creation.  Let’s become his children through faith in his Son!
Pray with me:
Father, we thank you for giving us new birth into your family.  Help us to live as your children in the world.  Today baptize us in your love and in your Spirit.  Clothe us with Christ so that those who encounter us today will recognize our resemblance with you.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
