1 Samuel 23:10-14
The Lord rewards everyone for their righteousness and faithfulness. The Lord delivered you into my hands today, but I would not lay a hand on the Lord’s anointed.
New International Version (NIV)
What would you do if you had the chance to repay the person who has harmed you most?  As David ran for his life from Saul, God delivered the King into his hand again and again (1 Samuel 24, 26).  At any time David could have taken revenge, but he left room for God.  Why?
Here we see a person after God’s own heart.  This is the gospel:  God could have paid death as the wage for our sin, but instead chose to die in our place.  David shows us a picture of the love of God.
In an excellent book called the Tale of Three Kings, Edwards contends that the way David responded to Saul prepared him for the challenges he would face when he became King.  As Paul reminds the Christians of the first century, when we feed our enemies we are overcoming evil with good.  Do we really believe that works?  We will never know until we try.
 Pray with me:
Father show us any anger that we harbor against others.  Today let us not only receive your grace but pass it on to others.  Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
