2 Corinthians 3:17-18
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.  And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
New International Version (NIV)
“Those who look to the Lord are radiant, their faces are never covered with shame”  (Psalm 34:5).   When the first martyr Stephen lifted his eyes to the Lord just before he was killed, not only did he see the Lord, but others saw the glory of God in his face “like that of an angel.”  Have you ever seen that?  I have seen it in the faces of those who walk with God and are filled with his Holy Spirit.
In this chapter Paul contrasts the ministry of the law with the ministry of the Spirit.  Remember when Moses brought the law down from the mountain, his face glowed from his time in the presence of God.  He wore a mask so he didn’t startle people.   As time passed, the glow faded.  Not so with those who are filled with God’s Spirit.
Paul envisions a transformation of our lives in which we grow in grace and the glory of God is manifested powerfully in our lives.  God has filled his servants with light.  We become the light of the world through his Spirit.  With no veils needed, in Christ, we shine without shame.  The more we become like Jesus the more his light shines through us.  To paraphrase a popular song:  “Shine!  Make them wonder what you have . . .”
Pray with me:
Lord of light, continue to eradicate the darkness in our lives and our world.  Replace our darkness with your perfect light.  Help us today to so shine that others see You in us.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
