Acts 28:30-31
For two whole years Paul stayed there in his own rented house and welcomed all who came to see him.  He proclaimed the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ—with all boldness and without hindrance!
New International Version (NIV)
“Who can stop the Lord Almighty?”  Great question.  When Paul arrived in Rome in preparation for a trial before Caesar, he encountered friends on his way into town.  Even in Rome, Paul preached the truth.  He lived under house arrest.  There he welcomed others and there he proclaimed the kingdom of God.

Nothing can hinder the good news of the Kingdom.  Paul’s life proved that no shackle could restrain him, no prison could contain his message.  My friend and hero in the faith Frank Pollard imagined Paul chained to a Roman soldier telling him the good news.  In his letter to the Philippians Paul says the whole Praetorian Guard had heard the gospel through his imprisonment.

What hinders us from announcing that Jesus is our King?  We are not behind bars.  No one is threatening us.  We have absolute freedom to live under the sovereign Lordship and Kingdom of Jesus Christ.  Tonight I get to have dinner with friends who spent the prime of their lives serving in a country which forbids conversion to Christianity.  Nevertheless, as our missionaries, they led many people to faith in Jesus.  The gospel of Jesus Christ cannot be hindered by any external force.  Remember the song, “I’ll tell the world that I’m a Christian.”  May God give us boldness to speak his truth in love to someone today.

Pray with me:
Father, we thank you for the progress of the gospel from Jerusalem, all the way to Rome, across the ocean and all the way to our homes.  Thank you for preachers who faithfully preached of the Lordship of Jesus Christ.  Let us live under your sovereign rule today.  Help us to speak your good news today.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen!
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
