Welcome to the March edition of the SOLVE-CHD monthly updates 2025. This monthly e-newsletter will keep you up to date with the key progress of the SOLVE-CHD projects and provide updates on our events and initiatives. Simply 
email solve-chd.info@sydney.edu.au if you wish to share/add anything from your area that is directly/indirectly related to the SOLVE-CHD program. We would also strongly encourage you to share your research highlights and successes that is relevant to cardiac rehabilitation and secondary prevention with us so that we can celebrate your achievements with our network. 
Key Updates and Highlights
HURRY!! The SOLVE-CHD ACRA funded ICCPR CRFC program closes on March 31, 2025.

Following the success of our first two rounds, 140 eligible applicants have already begun their free training, we want to extend this incredible opportunity to even more Cardiac Rehabilitation clinicians across Australia.

HeartStrong: A Finalist at the National Heart Foundation’s Catalyst Partnership Grants Showcase

We are excited to share that HeartStrong, led by Prof Julie Redfern, Prof Robyn Gallagher and the SOLVE-CHD team, has been selected as one of the top 20 finalists for the National Heart Foundation of Australia’s Catalyst Partnership Grants!

The Catalyst Partnership Grants Showcase Event will take place on 25-26 March 2025 at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne, where finalists will present their innovative projects aimed at transforming cardiovascular health. This event not only celebrates innovation and excellence but also determines the final grant recipients.

HeartStrong is driving meaningful change in cardiac rehabilitation in Australia, ensuring more people receive effective, evidence-based support after a cardiac event. Being among the top 20 finalists is a testament to the impact and potential of our work.

SOLVE-CHD Spotlight

Prof Rod Taylor 

Rod Taylor is Professor of Population Health Research, Co-Director of Centre for Excellence in Trials Collaboration (CETC), University of Glasgow, Scotland, UK and Adjunct Professor, Faculty of Health Sciences – National Institute of Public Health and Department of Psychology, University of South Denmark. 

He has published over 550 peer-reviewed articles in the field of health services research and has an H-index of 128 and i10-index 445. Rod’s primary research interests include developing the evidence base to support global access to exercise-based interventions in people with cardiovascular disease and other long-term conditions that include the ongoing  REACH-HFpEF, PERFORM, and ACROSS trials and directing the Cochrane Review Cardiac Rehabilitation Centre together with clinical trial methodology, including the use of surrogate outcomes and the handing of multiple endpoints. 

We are delighted to announce that Rod has been invited to serve as the keynote speaker at two prestigious events: the CSANZ (Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand) and ACRA (Australian Cardiovascular Health and Rehabilitation Association) Annual Scientific Conferences, taking place in August 2025.

Rod’s expertise and insights have made significant contributions to our field, and his invitation to speak at both conferences is a testament to his dedication and influence. Attendees can look forward to an enriching presentation that promises to inspire and inform.

Join us in celebrating Rod's achievement and be sure not to miss his keynote addresses, where he will share his latest research and innovative thoughts on advancing cardiovascular health.

Patient Advocacy Training Academy on Research, Clinical Guidelines, Media, and Health Policy

Key Program Areas

The Advocacy Training Academy will engage participants in four key areas to cultivate the necessary skills to effectively share their stories and become Ambassadors for Hearts4heart. 
 
1. Health Policy and Advocacy 
Provides a strong foundation in policy and advocacy, empowering participants to influence change effectively

2. Research and Clinical Guidelines
Equips participants with skills to interpret and understand research and clinical guideline processes to provide meaningful contributions to relevant committees.

3. Media Training and Advocacy Skills 
Trains and prepares participants for public engagements and media opportunities, through robust media and presentation training focusing on confidence-building and storytelling to amplify participants’ voices in the public domain.

4. Capacity Building for Committee Participation 
Offers guidance on navigating meeting structures, presenting their perspective and engaging collaboratively with other committee members enabling participants to take on roles within committees, advisory boards and other decision-making bodies.
