A message from Janet Stephens, the leader of NYWC's Queens Library at Astoria workshop:
"What I loved about being a NYWC participant was the feeling that we were all starting at the same place due to the nature of the workshops. We wrote on demand in the workshop. No one was sharing a piece that had been edited previously.
"I also really loved that the workshop facilitator participated and shared along with everyone else. This added to the feeling that we were all a community of writers.
"In the role of facilitator, I strive to create a welcoming community that is open to all types of writers. I enjoy reminding participants that this is their writing time and that all prompts are merely suggestions. It's also been nice to give participants a choice with the prompts, helping to build ownership of our writer's community. It feels like we have a nice collection of writers in our community group now."
