Graduation UPDATE
Dear Eighth Grade Families,
During yesterday’s virtual chapel, Mr. Hansen referenced that he learned early on as a new faculty member how deep the bonds are at St. Michael’s, how well we take care of each other and how well we support one another. I, too, have come to see and appreciate these bonds and all that is held dear to St. Michael’s. Eighth grade graduation is indeed one of our time-honored traditions that cements the bonds that have grown and developed through time.
Let’s graduate! The administrative team and I revisited the previous plan which included adding a graduation ceremony to the eighth grade dinner your parent volunteers are organizing at Independence Golf Club. I am happy to share that the graduation ceremony will now be held in the Ellen Passmore Athletic Center (Singleton Campus gym) on Wednesday, June 24, at 4:30 p.m. Following the ceremony, you and your graduate will proceed to Independence for dinner. As of this letter, it is my hope to include siblings and grandparents in the ceremony. Please note all planning is dependent upon the Governor and his social distancing mandates. The July 29 alternative date is still in place.
An August date was also considered. Our concern is if anyone attending the ceremony contracts the coronavirus, it would necessitate the School closing for two weeks of intensive cleaning -- thus impacting the opening of the 2020-2021 school year.
While end of year celebrations are certainly different due to the pandemic and distancing guidelines set by Governor Northam, we look forward to this being an evening of coming TOGETHER to remember time-honored traditions and special times shared throughout the years with you and your graduates.
Sincerely,
Robert E. Gregg III
Head of School
